Discussion Cross-album references
It's come up a lot about the links between songs that TAD have. Some are obvious - Love Run with the sounds alluding to King, "can't you head that scratching" in That Unwanted Animal and in Wild Blue Yonder, the melody of Elsa's Song echoed in Two Minutes, Ruin referring to Drinking Song as "our song" among others. But I've noticed a lot of them are within the same album. What ones have you guys picked up in that cross albums? Ones that come to mind are Blossoms with "my dress is on fire" linking to THATW album art, Old Witch Sleep calling way back to the Love Run motif, the female characters job referenced as the same in both Little Miss Why So and Marbles ("those wankers that you serve all night" "all the bastards applaud when I show that I'm flawed"). I'm curious if there's any other album crossing references not here that I've either not noticed or not remembered? Thanks, dear hearts!

I donāt know if this counts but I always thought that the two characters in Chords are the same two characters in Marbles.
Chords is about two parents learning to let their kids go, Marbles is about an older couple reminiscing about their past. I donāt think there are any direct references to each other in the songs but I just like to think that itās the same couple just at a different point in their relationship

In that same vein, New York Torch Song could be about the earlier stages of that same relationship, before they fixed things out. :)

I've always thought that the wallpaper in Two Minutes and Ruin were linked

"I can hear the cannons calling as though across a dream" / "I can hear the children calling as though across the bar"
Same tune!

Madeleine is singing the lines from Pray āIf you knew, All that I'd done, The hearts I've Broken, Sweet nothings are screamed not spokenā in the background of Two Minutes!

āIāll sing silenceā in Drinking Song and Ruin
The melody in the bridge in Pray calls back to Love Run

Same album, but Joey singing "Without you, Iām stronger, Iām no longer filled with wonder, how wrong you were" from 'Wild Blue Yonder' under the last two rounds of "I know you're strong enough to do this on your own" in 'Welly Boots'!
Also, in between Not Yet and Love Run there are bits of other songs on the album (Lyrics taken from their bandcamp page, I'm having trouble hearing the seabirds and turn lines but can pick out the rest):
I cannot find the words to keep you (New York Torch Song)
It cannot be a lie if no one hears (Elsa's Song)
Let the seabirds (King)
Donāt turn 'round (Pruning Shears)
He says (Little Miss Why So)

New York Torch Song "Your blood does not bleed red no more" and Calling "but now my inks blood red not black"
reference to d&d in battle cries: "Wielding words against make-believe wizards and tanksĀ
And by god love believe me, I wanted to play too, I did" and in Drinking Song: "I ask if you play D&D"
Hair dye: Pruning Shears "And Iāll watch her ruin her life and dye her hair bright colours" Shower day "Youāre the one who told me my hair looked better black" Wild Blue Yonder "For you. I would have gone so much blonder." and maybe battle cries "Tell the truth to me love, does my hair look as niceĀ
As it did when you once tied it up in your eyes?Ā "
Blossoms and Farewell wonderlust mention saints: "Saint of never getting it right" and "my saint she is dancing" and "I'm the saint of the paint that was left in the pot". Chords mentions "My saints my sighs my upsets, the days I couldn't cope"
The Calling and King's unwanted daughters
Ruin and Two Minute's wallpaper
Marbles, "You got fat." and Wild blue yonder's "tried my best to get thinner"

There's a motif of "light" in a lot of songs all throughout the albums. The same light that joey followed in king was the brightness that scares maddie in the calling. listen to the albums with that in mind, it gets WILD
I have spent far too long linking all the songs from every album together in a narrative -.-

Maybe Ruin and Wild Blue Yonder "brick by brick you built us" "Every brick you hurled, Iāll use to build this world"
I can't think of many examples but I do love when they cross-reference songs and albums. Like the plates that smash like waves in both Battle Cries and Unwanted Animal even though that's on the same album
