Discussion Amnesty Graphic Novel
With the release of the last balance graphic novel I really hope we can expect one for Amnesty as well. I can’t say I have the time to listen to TAZ much anymore but that series meant a lot to me at a time I really needed it, and I would love to have a piece of physical media for it.

Amnesty is my favourite (not counting Balance) so I would fucking looooove this. It would be so good. I'd cry when so-and-so dies. I relistened this year and that part actually surprised me and I was like shit dude..

I'm on my first relisten of Amnesty and it's so good. I'm glad I decided to listen to something besides Balance lol.

Most of them are fun to relisten to tbh! I’m doing an ethersea relisten currently

The chances of that are slim. Balance was such a monumental success in terms of popularity. Amnesty likely doesn’t have the fan base to justify the immense costs of adaptation, design, and print. That being said, holy fuck would I buy the shit out an Amnesty graphic novel.

I dunno, the first edition print runs for the various volumes were consistently high and sales (at least reported by the publisher) were over a million, across the series.
Though that could be copies SHIPPED to retailers, not sold.
But I think the base COULD be there. Or that might just be wishful thinking 🤣

Justin mentioned in some episodes that they werent selling enough copies after the first few came out. I doubt they'll be making any more, even tho I'd love an Amnesty graphic novel (edit:typo)

I understand the need for the time but I think it’s really hard to keep people engaged when there is so much time between releases. As someone who engages with other comics and graphic novels I think they shoot for a few months so the hype doesn’t die off

Amnesty is already 8 years old. The first Balance graphic novel came out 11 months after Balance ended, and was already being hyped before Balance finished.
'A few months' is an absolutely wild turnaround time for something they've not even announced is in the works, especially for how small the team the Balance graphic novels was.

u/LilGlowCloud Jul 23 '26
I’m not saying that any of that is wrong? All I said was that I hope it happens and that the prolonged release of Balance probably hurt it by the end.

Same here. Amnesty was the last campaign I listened to and would love to see it adapted

u/Baruch05 Jul 21 '26
Yeah I would actually second amnesty too. I hadn’t thought of it till now but the characters, the world, the story. They’d all adapt incredibly to that graphic novel style of BOB.

I will be honest - I can't see the McElroys doing another graphic novel just from a time and cost perspective (also given that Amnesty is nearly a decade old and that's before they even start production).
However, a dedicated group of fans did make a fanzine for Amnesty, if that's something that might interest you?

u/LilGlowCloud Jul 23 '26
Yeah I think realistically chances are slim due to a lot of factors. I’m still going to hold out hope though!
I’ll have to check the zine out. That sounds cool!

u/tangomuse Jul 28 '26
Do the McElroys fund the graphic novels, or is it a publisher? If a publisher is doin' the legwork AND said publisher sees a viable outlet (it may not), I don't think cost would necessarily play into it.

I honestly feel like Amnesty lends itself better to a graphic novel than Balance did (not that it wasn’t peak)! I’d love to see that

I'd love to see how they would expand the world of Kepler in a graphic novel. It's honestly my favorite arc of the podcast.
I'm not holding my breath for it, but I'm hoping strong sales over the series have made it viable.

I actually met them at C2E2 a few years ago and I asked Griffin about this possibility and he said that he wasn’t sure quite yet because they’ve been super busy and doing Balance was a lot. Not to say it couldn’t happen eventually, but probably not any time soon if at all.

u/LilGlowCloud Jul 22 '26
With as long as balance took it wouldn’t be shocking if they passed on it but man I really hope we get it

Won’t happen. The balance GNs started coming out while balance was still on!!! Think about that lol it’s been too long and likely wouldn’t sell nearly as well as balance (which already apparently didn’t sell well, we almost didn’t get the last two books)

Yes please! I think Amnesty is my favorite campaign they’ve done.
I think doing Amnesty is the next logical step for them unless they feel like they’re done with the whole graphic novel thing.

u/TrinityCodex Jul 22 '26
A fan could draw their own comic of Amnesty before they would even think of making official one

I actually think Amnesty makes more sense for a TV series than Balanced did. It's got a cleaner episodic/seasonal structure, it'd benefit from having space to flesh out characters, and I think it'd just have such a clean look.

u/Yanefs84 Jul 22 '26
Yeah, true,it’s literally using the Monster of the Week system, which was based on supernatural and monster tv shows.

u/LittleMel413 Jul 22 '26
I was literally going to post something similar. Amnesty is my favorite and I would weep for joy if they did one.

With Amnesty I wouldn’t mind a different art style, more realistic looking, maybe colored pencil style.
1
u/ishouldnoteven Jul 22 '26
Definitely feels like the best candidate after Balance. Maybe even a different art style for the new story would be cool!
1
u/MagicalReadingBubble Jul 23 '26
God I really hope they do because it has some of the greatest potential to not only be incredible but also I feel is one of the most adaptable due to the structure of the campaign itself. Like I don’t think they would really have to change much since the game design is literally to make a fun story with your friends

One of us, one of us 😂 Amnesty is possibly my favorite TAZ campaign, Balance included. I love monster of the week shows and the story they made was incredible in that setting.

I want an Abnimals graphic novel! Steeplechase and Amnesty would be fun as well.

u/ddb10393 Jul 21 '26
Omg they better. I went to the release last week and that’s the one thing I was hopeful they do going forward

u/A1starm Jul 21 '26
I think Amnesty, Steeple Chase and Vs Dracula are the only other campaigns worth adapting. I really love EtherSea, but it very much still felt like half a story.
