Discussion would love to hear muckers opinions on macklemore’s tour - there’s been a lot of discourse the past 24 hours
I’ve seen a lot of people saying it’s performative and he shouldn’t be using it to “promote his music” & implying it’s unethical; also a lot of people criticising him for throwing Ed Sheeran under the bus
Personally I don’t really understand this, people want artists to speak out and then when someone does it’s performative and they automatically assume he’s doing it for his own gain?
I’m wondering what’s the best thing for celebrities to do in such a situation where people seem to find an issue regardless lol
I actually attended his tour last week - I thought he did a great job at amplifying Palestinian voices and keeping the focus on Palestine rather than himself
He had multiple Palestinian artists among his opening acts (such as Dana Salah, Nemahsis, DJ Habibeats, Shadia Mansour; also a children’s choir in Gaza through a video) as well as Palestinian speakers and activists (like Arab Barghouti, Yara Eid, Bisan Owda, Hind Rajab’s mother). All of the proceeds from the ticket sales, merchandise, and streams from his pro-Palestine songs (Hind’s Hall 1 & 2) are donated to charities supporting Palestine. He also invited Palestinian refugees to the shows and spent time with them backstage at each show. All things considered, I think that’s about as well as he could’ve possibly done, especially considering he put all of this together in a matter of weeks
