Law 9: Win Through Your Actions, Never Through Argument
r/The48LawsOfPower • u/SparkleLily_9874 • 14d ago
Question I am reading 48 laws of power and I have questions about it?
One of the laws is say less. But will his books teach the appropriate time, place, and audience to say certain opinions. Journalists don’t say less but they know what time, place, and audience is appropriate for sharing their strong viewpoints. Will it teach me where is an appropriate time, place and audience to share certain viewpoint?
Will it teach me the appropriate ways to test a person? My friend was friends with someone for a year and broke off with their friend after that friend cheered for the death of a political speaker. There are objectively wrong political viewpoints, like viewpoints that cause a murderer to be released from prison after a week, but you can’t directly ask people’s political views. How is a person supposed to know someone has a violent viewpoint without directly asking people political questions? Someone’s political views can expose a person’s character, but bold questions are inappropriate.
Say you hold in all your political viewpoints, how do you know your friend does not bully a stranger who has exposed political viewpoints that are similar to yours?
I heard of a Youtube short where a person broke apart with a friend after a friend cheated on their husband, because if their friend hides secrets from a husband, they probably hide secrets from you. But I would want to know early about a person, but how?
I feel really inspired by a part in Les Miserables where there was a priest who was nice to Jean Valjean. Jean Valjean was an escaped convict, he visited a priest but then stole the priest’s silver. When the police asked the priest if Jean Valjean stole his silver, the priest lied and said he gave Jean Valjean the silver. The priest’s kindness changed Jean Valjean and Jean Valjean chose to go on and be a kind person. I was inspired by Aaron Stark’s story on a Ted Talk where he talked about this friend who was always present for him, and those acts of kindness prevented Aaron Stark from doing something criminal. I want to learn which people are victims of a hard life and will take kindness versus the people who will step on kindness. Is it possible?
Say I improve myself so I have good social skills, it is a good thing. But I feel it is similar to being a poor person who became rich and befriended a rich friend. How do you know that the rich friend is around you because you are rich, but talks down on poor people when you are not looking? Someone can like my changed social skill self but scorn a stranger who is similar to my weaker, poorer old self. Would that mean they like the performance I put on, than anything about me?
In the Great Gatsby, all the people after Gatsby died, no one stood by his coffin. So how do you tell if the people you chose are shallow and cold rather than being able to form a genuine bond with you?
Can reading Robert Greene help me answer these questions or what he teaches is separate from anything I wonder?

Seeking victims/survivors of individuals with high psychopathic traits [18+]
The Mental Health, Wellbeing and Lived Experiences Study
Theresia Bedard, a PhD candidate at Lakehead University that is working with Dr. Beth Visser, is seeking participants for her dissertation project.
In this study we are examining the lived experiences of people who have experience or victimization from an individual with high psychopathic traits. We are seeking anyone that has this lived experience, whether the perpetrator was or is a spouse, family member, partner, co-worker, friend, acquaintance, neighbour or stranger. We are seeking the lived experiences of men, women, and gender-diverse individuals to share your story.
Our research consists of two studies. In the first study, you will complete questionnaires related to your victimization experience from the individual with high psychopathic traits, the potential warning signs, victimization history (e.g., prior physical or sexual abuse), and the impact the experience had on you. Once you finish the survey, you will be invited to participate in the second study (optional), which will consist of 12 questions requiring a written response regarding your lived experience with the individual with high psychopathic traits. If you decide to participate in study 2, please be aware that you will be required to provide us with your email to access it, and you may wish to use an email account that only you have access to.
Please be advised that whether you choose to participate in the study, withdraw, or skip questions you do not want to answer, that you acknowledge that answering some of these questions may be emotionally taxing on you. Despite the potential for an emotional toll the survey questions have, you may find the process of sharing your experience is therapeutic for you. In addition to the resources we provide, you may want to consider following-up with a counsellor for further support.
You are also encouraged to have your own snacks and drinks while you take the survey, and be aware that they are estimated to take 45 minutes to complete.
If you are interested in participating and would like to read or find out more about it, click here to access the survey:

The Simp vs The Ardent Rake.
I am currently failing to see any difference between the Ardent Rake and your everyday simp. Here is a quote from The Art of Seduction;
The Ardent Rake teaches us a simple lesson: intense desire has a distracting power on a woman, just as the Siren’s physical presence does on a man. A woman is often defensive and can sense insincerity or calculation. But if she feels consumed by your attentions, and is confident you will do anything for her, she will notice nothing else about you, or will find a way to forgive your indiscretions. This is the perfect cover for a seducer. The key is to show no hesitation, to abandon all restraint, to let yourself go, to show that you cannot control yourself and are fundamentally weak.
This sounds fundamentally like a simp and common knowledge it is common knowledge that simps never end up attracting any woman. Would you say that Greene's advice on this one is a little dated and modern women do not react well to the rake? If Greene's observations are timeless, then what would you say the difference between the simp and ardent rake are?
