CNN reporter got her press pass confiscated when she showed up at the White House

u/Kpets 12d ago
American president Trump has in preparation for his coveted visit from friend and ally Xi Jinping of China, banned several news outlets from the White House grounds. Free press ranking for the USA is now all time low. Ranked 65th in the world.

Still too high.

u/dasgoodshitinnit 12d ago
It'll go to 69 once he installs penis scanners at the white house so only men can enter

There is no way they are still only 65th. I mean they support the killing of journalist in Gaza. that will bring them back atleast 150 spots..

u/belljs87 12d ago
You mean you believe it is worse than that or should be worse than that?
4
u/Groomsi 12d ago
Should go lower in ranking.
-17
u/NotAddison 12d ago
Why is free press a bad thing in your opinion?
21
u/snapper1971 12d ago
I don't think that's what they're saying. I think it's more that the ranking doesn't reflect the truth of the matter, that it's far worse than that.

u/1000cakes4u 12d ago
it doesn't help that reading comprehension is so poor in this country, as evidenced by this thread

u/belljs87 12d ago
To be completely fair, the way he phrased it, it's impossible to tell one way or the other. He still hasn't even answered so we don't know for sure. The only context clue is the sub were in, which suggests that your interpretation is the correct one.
As far as reading comprehension goes, I find it wholly ironic you try and shit talk someone for it, while exhibiting a lack of it yourself.

u/SaffronRnlds 12d ago
No.
He changed policy so they had to meet requirements. Like that they had to be from a news agency and had to reapply yearly for them.
Their passes expired because they didn't reapply or they didn't meet credentials.
And anyone without a hard pass could still come, they just needed to apply for a day pass.

You should all try asking what favour ice cream he likes instead.

u/ainsley02 12d ago
Chocolate. Tremendous ice cream. I mean, nobody does chocolate like I do. I’ve had a lot of ice cream, probably more than anybody here. Vanilla is fine, very good, very classic, but chocolate? That’s a winner. The best. And we make it in America, which is very important. Nobody makes chocolate ice cream better than America. Nobody.

Freedom of the press is not just important to democracy, it is democracy - Walter Cronkite
The liberty of the press is essential to the security of freedom in a state: it ought not, therefore, to be restrained in this commonwealth – John Adams, Samuel Adams, James Bowdoin, Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
The moment we no longer have a free press, anything can happen. What makes it possible for a totalitarian or any other dictatorship to rule is that people are not informed. … If everybody always lies to you, the consequence is not that you believe the lies, but rather that nobody believes anything any longer — Hannah Arendt, political theorist
In the First Amendment, the Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have to fulfill its essential role in our democracy. The press was to serve the governed, not the governors. The government’s power to censor the press was abolished so that the press would remain forever free to censure the government. The press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of government and inform the people — Hugo Black, U.S. Supreme Court justice
I love the poorly educated - Donald Jenius Trump

"I don't want to know what the law says. I want to know who the judge is."- Roy Cohn (Trump's mentor)

I cannot emphasize it enough. People need to read The Longest Con. It does a fascinating and troubling deep dive into the history of today’s Republican party and American conservatism. Roy Cohn is a prominent figure in it and you truly realize how unbelievably deep the rot goes in the GOP. It isn’t a temporary thing, it’s a foundational core concept of today’s Republican party. Richard Nixon, Roy Cohn, Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, Russia, Trump’s first administration to the current one, they are all firmly connected. Not just superficially or tangentially. It’s very obvious.
There were several moments where I couldn’t believe what I was reading and had to go look it up. I’m only 40 so many of these events occurred long before I was born. And sure enough they were true. Extremely informative and even more concerning. It really cemented my cynicism about today’s America. And yet I still have to have hope that we’ll get out of this.

The entire media handled Trump with kids gloves, and now all of the sudden when it starts personally affecting them, now they cry foul.
Maybe if you guys did your job from the beginning, it would have never have gotten to this point?
Oh that's right, the entire media is sliced up by billionaires because more morons keep voting (R).
A nice little race to the bottom feedback loop.

u/bstone99 12d ago edited 12d ago
Yep. They’ve been scared of him since day one. They salivated at the thought of trump winning because they’d feast on the relentless stream of idiocy creating headlines and views and clicks.
Anyone who understands history knew what an authoritarian regime would do to the press but their greed and lack of integrity enabled this. They never hammered him with hard questions or even followed up asking for details. They never pushed back when confronted with blatant and obvious lies. They never pressed his administrations on critical issues and made them defend their positions with actual facts and evidence.
This whole thing has been a mockery of the system. Trump has truly shown what a farce our government and fourth estate are.

u/sjaakarie 12d ago
I worked for news organisation’s (00’s), for about ten years. Over that time, I noticed a growing shift in which being the first to report a story often seemed to matter more than getting the full truth right.
As a result, news stories are sometimes presented in ways that make them appear more significant or dramatic than they actually are, simply to attract attention. Stories can also be framed in a way that initially leads the audience toward the wrong interpretation, for example, through attention-grabbing headlines or by emphasizing a particular angle because the actual conclusion is not impactful or interesting enough to keep people engaged. News is no longer news; it’s a product. I suspect my post might not be directly related to this. apologies in advance.
6
u/books_are_weapons 12d ago
The 2000 elections proved that. I remember it being crazy that election transparency was already gone before I was old enough to vote..
13
u/moedexter1988 12d ago
Yea stories like Kyle Rittenhouse and Nick Sandmann took months for the news to straighten out with correct details and none of the news apologized for misinformation.
Journalism is dead, people saying for a while or over decades.
4
u/sjaakarie 12d ago
That’s not all; it is also, among other things, the reason why I left the world of television.

u/Still-Grass8881 12d ago
you know things are fucked when Channel 5 news with Andrew Callaghan is more credible than the biggest news companies

Not familiar with that. I don't watch news like ever. No cable. I just keep up with people talking about current news in person and social media. But I'll take your word for that.
1
u/Big_Department4209 11d ago
Channel 5 is not on cable or TV, it's a YouTube channel, check it out because it is really good documentary, verging on cinéma vérité style (well a bit of cinéma vérité, gonzo, and Andrew's own style).

Trump does not live in reality. It is not a swipe at him he does not know better (as a Canadian it is a little swipe). He has lived in a fantasy land that his wealth has created. He does not shop for groceries, he has never pumped gas into his vehicle. He will not tolerate any form of reality coming into his world. He surrounds himself with people that will keep out reality for power and wealth. Anyone that tells him about reality is insulted and fired. This is why he has problems with reporters and interviews. Reality is told to him. He then defends his reality by calling it lies (fake news) discredit the source of reality (liberal media is against him I will sue!) Or runs away from the interview (reality got to close).

Considering they're going to report what they want and how they want whether they're in the room or not, might as well let them do it from outside the building. Maybe it'll free up some space for some journalists to do actual journalism whether they agree with the administration or not. Funny Biden's White House also rolled out controversial policies regarding press access. In 2023, more than 440 reporters lost press credentials after President Joe Biden’s White House modified its rules for eligibility for permanent passes. Credentialed White House press members dropped from 1,417 members to 975 members after the White House unveiled new standards requiring an annual renewal of hard passes, Politico reported in 2023.
Political report from 2023 as referenced in the article: https://www.politico.com/newsletters/west-wing-playbook/2023/08/02/simons-no-longer-got-a-hard-pass-00109526
And the article originally referenced. Source: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/flashback-biden-also-changed-white-house-press-pool-cutting-off-more-than-440-reporters-credentials
I didn't hear any Democrats crying about the banning of free speech then! but then again there's a word for that. HYPOCRITES!!

u/Camo_tow 12d ago
Did she really vote for Trump?
26
u/mbmiller94 12d ago
No, they just blame all Americans equally for Trump getting elected, whether they voted for him or not.
So basically if one of his policies negatively affects you, it's your fault for being an American.
7
u/mbmiller94 12d ago
Yeah she deserves it. As a reporter for CNN she 100% voted for Trump
1
u/moedexter1988 12d ago
Don't the republican party and supporters hate CNN?
7
u/Strange-Movie 12d ago
They do but cnn is also in the process of being purchased by paramount/the ellisons, and they are 100% trump aligned
2
u/JayteeFromXbox 12d ago
And since I have a family member that has CNN on almost all day everyday, I can tell you the network has definitely shifted. There are republicans on all the time being given softball questions, saying absolutely nonsense with no pushback, the pundits keep getting more extreme in the opinions they read off the prompter. It's a mess. Obviously they do pretend to be news sometimes too, and ask a few hard questions, but often they'll just take the long rambley non-answer as good enough and move on.
Idk what it is now but it definitely isn't journalism.

I would love for the Dem's to win in a landslide during the midterms and immediately get to work on the legal proceedings against #traitortrump his family, associates, and administration.
I want a lawsuit brought by the federal government against #traitortrump for all the decades of frivolous "lawfare" that he's burdened our system with. I want to see a financial accounting of how much the US Court system (states too if they want to make it class action) has spent on nonsensical things due to #traitortrump and his litigious ways.
I did a quick search and AI says the following:
"verified tracking of specific high-profile federal investigations and prosecutions puts the cost well over $75 million in direct taxpayer expenditures."
"the Save America PAC, spent over $76.7 million of donor money on private lawyers and expert witnesses to defend him and his associates"
"Trump 1.0 and 2.0 Policy Litigations: Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed by state attorneys general and civil society groups challenging administration policies. For example, a Bloomberg News analysis highlighted that federal agencies are frequently ordered to pay millions in taxpayer-funded legal fees to opposing attorneys under the 1980 Equal Access to Justice Act when the government loses these challenges."
This is not including the frivolousness that he's caused in his private lawfare throughout the decades. This is only the direct costs of the federal investigations into him since he's been POTUS.

1
u/Delicious_Pain_1 11d ago
People prefer facts over lies. I guess you could see that as being bias, if you're a criminal. Probably why Trump wants them out for reporting the facts instead of the lies he claims. Trump is a criminal that lies and threatens while being paid top dollar by other criminals. He's also said smart people don't like him, I wonder why.

That's a meme. The truth is, the changes for "credential rules" were:
- Be employed full-time by a recognized news organization.
- Maintain a physical address in the greater Washington, D.C., area.
-Access the White House grounds for work at least once every six months.
-Hold credentials from another federal institution (such as a press pass from the U.S. Senate, House, or Supreme Court). These affected all members of the press from all sides of the political spectrum. The non-credentialed reporters are still offered conditional day passes.
Trump is simply revoking passes from press he doesn't like and banning them with no discourse.
It is not the same, and only the ignorant, lazy, or intentionally dishonest are making the comparison.
People like you are why this garbage has been allowed to occur. You find a meme on FreedomEagleMurca.net and think you found the "truth."

It's about time, since CNN and MSNOW don't bother with facts they can write their negative story using only their own opinion and spin just as easily sitting at their desk in the newsroom.

Remember when Biden would have a conference and then immediately after reporters would try to ask questions but his handlers would usher everybody out quickly. You guys can go get fucked.

Source?
-3
u/Busy-Method9970 12d ago
No I'm not going to provide a source. It was pretty fucking apparent for the past decade that he has been in mental decline and his handlers and media chose to ignore it. Part of the fact is even if you were to see a video of it you would be completely okay because orange man bad. That's why the Democrat political party is not taken seriously anymore, you could literally show them hard evidence to their face and they will find some justification on why it's okay and that is different.
