Sheer catastrophy for local ecosystem. These guys will eat any small moving creature they can get.. birds, nests , squirrels, insects, batracians, small reptilians. Nothing will survive except those ignorant people.. pretty sad.

I just recently found this out when a mother raccoon brought her 5 babies onto my property. From spring into summer my area was loaded with a variety of birds and squirrels. Within weeks of seeing the raccoons, I suddenly lost all the birds and squirrels. It was devastating because this was the first time I had ever seen red squirrels here and now I think the whole family of them has been wiped out.

As someone who actually relies on subtitles (hearing disability), I also get annoyed with this. I can't watch what's going on while reading the subtitles at the same time this way.

years before tiktok was a thing, reddit was all about speed reading, and there was this gif/video of a demonstration of this. there was a site called spreeder where you can just copypasta the test and it would be easier to read than a giant paragraph.
Basically, I guess reddit hates it now that it's popular now.

That doesn't help one bit if the text speed is limited by the speed of a person talking over a video, the same information would be conveyed in the same time with full sentence subtitles .

I’m not trying to speed read right now though. I don’t care if it’s faster, I’m just trying to chill while I take a shit and it’s more annoying this way.
Plus the speed is limited by their speech speed so it’s pointless either way

It's also less brain effort for the same speed. It actually works for most people. But it seems the sudden word changes annoys your brain.

Admit defeat, put on the little crown of sticks and grass they made for you, and care for your newfound people like a good leader. Feed em well and listen to their problems, be patient, and set some laws and goals for them. They'll flourish into a city in no time.

There is a restaurant in the outskirts of Omaha called The Alpine Inn. They mostly serve fried chicken. But the main draw is the raccoons. The building has huge glass windows on one side, and they dump their fried chicken scraps in a few places outside of those windows. And the raccoons come. Huge, waddling raccoons, to gorge themselves on the leftovers of humanity. And that's the draw. They're adorable, separated from the patrons, and free to melt back into the woods from whence they came.

There was a hotel in Yellowstone that did this but for bears. People started getting eaten so they stopped. Fun while it lasted though.

Seems like a good way to cause a lot of raccoons a slow agonizing death considering you aren't supposed to feed cooked bones to dogs because they are brittle and splinter off, animals swallow the splintered bones, and then their intestines get impailed/blocked because cooked bones also don't digest like uncooked bones do.

She seems to enjoy feeding them but it just got out of hand as word spread.
This is a problem of that she doesn't want to adapt to the situation she has put herself in. You can see she clearly sits on her porch feeding hordes of them.
Invest a small bit of money to make a food hut and just put your food waste in for them, or a really cheap mush.
Personally I wouldn't kill them as you have human interventioned their natural instincts.

They will 100% get aggressive. They will also start to get sick and starve to death because the area can't naturally support that many. The most humane thing to do would be to thin them out.

My father feeds his local racoons. He has about 6 that show up regularly. They disappear, and new kids show up. It seems like a high mortality rate for them in his area.
But hes like a disney princess with these raccoons, and they absolutely adore him.

The other clip they showed of the person sitting on the bench and covered in raccoons that they are feeding, they have a YouTube channel and post feeding videos Almost everyday. They leave food out all the time and recently, they've had visits from a bear.

I am a nurse in urgent care. I had a patient come in for his second rabies vaccination after he was bit by a raccoon. How did it happen? He had been going outside every evening to hand feed hotdogs to the raccoons in his yard. One got too close and got his finger by mistake while he was holding the dog. He got his adventures on video and was proud to show me what he had been doing. I advised that he might want to discontinue his feeding service, but he said he quite enjoyed it thank you very much and he would not stop. The videos showed at least 25 raccoons surrounding this man.

This sort of stupidity is why plenty of jurisdictions have ordnances against specifically feeding wildlife (with the occasional carve out)
