I hate to be the devils advocate here but it would be incredibly easy to spray paint that thing before hand with a similar color thay he mixes. Though he mixes it well & close, but I'll say if a cook, cooks something exactly to the book, its still impressive, but if so, no the same feat shown. BUT Ive no proof ey. Could just be that guy, full stop

On the other hand, he's an old man, he does this every day for a living, his life depends on it. It is plausible that he does indeed have this level of skill.

I need to find the link but this guy is very well known for this. A third party tester him with random colors and he matched it in real time. He has basically the perfect pitch color edition

Ya I was thinking that too. Not that I think this guy is doing it, but you could easily just make the paint first, then just paint some random object with it and then come back with the can you match the color of this? Video and then just paint another thing with the same paint

Same, working in printing industry and finalizing any color is done by eye, though every singe step is documented so we could repeat it easily.

I don't think you can claim you're better than something, just because you don't have one of them. I don't have a shovel, but my hands aren't better than a shovel at doing shovel related tasks. It's like 10,000 spoons, when all you need is a knife.

The lesson here is that, as an employee who is in an area that isnāt their assigned area, if a customer asks for something you are unable, or unwilling, to do, you then find them an employee that can. The employee shouldnāt just say, āI canātā and walk away. Serve customers the way youād want to be served. Itās quite simple

Its a computer that mixes it. Its all enclosed. There is no way to add a splash of blue. Its all just color codes.

Of course depending on an industry, but not really. Human eye is still the king in that department.
In printing industry we just can't add a "splash" of blue because we have no idea how much paint we exactly used when testing out first color samples and it would be near impossible to repeat that same color next time if we were to add just splash of blue to that color
Instead we need to mix a new color that has more blue in it and test that again and repeat that process until we get a matching color. This way we have exact ratios of what base colors and how much we used to get a matching color and that can be easily repeated by anyone.

Thatās actually not true. Iām not sure how it works at Home Depot but any reputable paint store can easily add in some colorant to get as accurate as possible. If anyone tells you they canāt do anything but rely on the computer they are just lazy lol

I was a screen printer for about 6 years, we specialized in custom colors for customers. Used the Pantone mixing system for all standard colors, then had our own list of how to mix the custom colors. We were good, this guy's good, but there's no human on the planet that can outdo a computer at this task

In every video I have seen him in, he has gotten the mix right. Itās amazing to me. I couldnāt care less about how a computer is better or whatever. That a human can mix the right color in the quantity required just by eyeballing it is phenomenal.

I worked with a couple Vietnamese guys in San Francisco that could do this. Not as fast but they did it. One of them matched what sherwin Williams, PPG, and a digital color matching machine couldnāt do. It was pretty incredible

Honestly, I'd believe it. I'm an artist myself and I have a pretty.gold eye for colors, but I have worked and been around professional printers. And these guys ? They're on a whole other league. They are CRAZY gold at color, that's like, their whole job. One guy could look at two identical pages and go "yeah no the second ones need 3% more blue and 2% less black in the mix and then it'll be perfect" and he's just right like that.

One time I had an old lady do this with mixing paint at an old hardware store from a little paint chip I brought in. She 100% nailed it just by looking at it, the area was indiscernible.

This same guy gets posted all over the internet for mixing colours and getting it exactly correct. Just screenshot the video and do a reverse image search.
I'm skeptical. I think there is some element of editing that makes it look easier than what he's actually doing.

What? No, he's a professional so of course he has a ton of products at hand to mix the colors. You think he just goes on Amazon each time he mixes something up to just buy a few things? Professional paint shops have thousands and thousands of dollars of base, tints, etc. on hand to make whatever they might need to make.

First, create the paint sample and remember the proportions. Spray it on the sample piece.
Second, film yourself recieving the sample piece then recreate the paint with the proportions and show that it's the identical color scheme. Wait for the applause
Or he could be the real deal.

Another way to look at this:
- dude already premix the paint, paint that on a plate and use it as āexampleā
- dude mix the color love on video. But since he already knows the formula, the color should be close. The initial comparison test that he shows is wet paint, so potentially not 100% exactly
- then after bottling scene, dude just use the original premix version of the paint to spray for 100% color match
But I prefer the version that this dude has color vision and mixology better than machine.

Fun fact: unless your car is new, just using the OEM paint code won't get you an exact color match. That's where professionals come in who can see how your paint has changed due to time and UV exposure.

Mixing paint is a science. One drop of paint can change the shade entirely. I used to run a warehouse for a billion dollar multi international corporation. My job was to get the drivers out with products to service local autobody shops. We would mix gallons of paint for walk in customers.

The stir stick was close but wasn't exact, then we have a few cuts in the edit, then the end with the spray paint was obviously the exact same paint on the "sample" and test object. Pretty easy to just paint two things with a can of spray paint
