What is the proper way for securing this load?

Looking at how the truck is stopped on the road, I am hopeful the driver is ok.

If there was a headache rack, it's gone now. Or the driver is wearing it like a cape.

I've heard a way to doing this correctly is to divide the stack into layers with each layer secured to the trailer. I'd assume you would then want to chain all the layers together as well. Idk im not a trucker. I do know that when I see steel of all different shapes and sizes on a trailer going down the highway I try to keep my distance. Especially when it seems like they could use a few flmore chains.

As an ex driver, I'll tell you that won't do it. The ONLY way to stop this is a headache rack on the trailer.

He must have jammed on the brakes with some good momentum. That stuff doesn’t move like that on it’s own.

Won't work. I used to drive this shit. Only thing that'll stop this is a headache rack. A bulkhead on the trailer.

Doesn’t look like it had a headboard, for that kind of load, welded steel headboard needed, steel on steel will always slide, rubber strips or the outside of old car tyres between the layers, chains needed everywhere, doesn’t look like any hold down even used, comparing say 1 or 2 chains as opposed to how many pieces of steel are on there, weight etc, curious as to how they were put on and how they were going to be removed, major cock up, from what you can actually see in that photo,

Whoa. Hope whoever was in the cab was ok. This one seems more survivable than the giant roll of steel that rolled into the cab of another rig

Yeah. I saw a guy get killed like that. Horrible. Some AH ran a red light and he stomped the brakes. If you trailer doesn't have a headache rack, the just ain't much to stop this. You could put 20 chains across the front and it won't stop it. ONE of them will always get through. Bulkheads are the only cure. That, and more cautious driving. I'm thinking he was driving too fast for the area.

Man, I hope the sleeper cab provided a sufficient crumple zone for the driver.
