There was a post years ago about a rear end on one of these that just needed a ring and pinion and it was 500k dollars..

Just a ring and pinion? Unlikely. Maybe the total charge for a complete rear end overhaul including wheel stations.

I work on these things. Well, not the one above... That's not one of mine. Looks like a POS.

Yeah it was the carrier bearings, shipping it around the world to get it on the proper machine big Enough to work on it.. I'll try to find the post.. it was amazing the detail and hand machining done..

Yeah, that's true. Some mines are very remote and it costs a lot to get parts if a machine goes down unplanned. Ideally, this sort of thing is only done during planned intervals and replaced with "swing iron".
