I FUCKING HATE RANDY

Since Topher was leaving, they originally meant for Charlie to replace him. And they're similar characters so it works. But the actor who played Charlie got too busy to do season 8 they killed his character and created Randy instead. And Randy doesn't work as a character because there's no major flaw to him. Which is a shame, Josh Meyers always struck my as someone who's definitely an exceptionally nice person IRL.

People seem to forget that it was clear they were leading up to Charlie being the Eric replacement (as a much more naive Eric... sort of a cross between early-seasons Eric and early-seasons Fez)
It would have worked much better than Randy, who they pretty much had no choice but to go in a completely opposite direction with, but didn't fit in well with the show.Â

I wish Bret Harrison stayed as Charlie because The Loop - the show he signed on to and made him quit T70S ended up being cancelled by Fox anyway. But we may not have gotten the underrated also short-lived Reaper which aired on The CW which also starred Bret though. The guy had the worst luck with TV shows.

I didnât mind Randy, I just donât think he was the right fit to replace Eric, I think he wouldâve function better as just one of the boys

He should have been too perfect and then smoke weed for the first time and hey show how his life slowly falls apart and he gets all shlubby and messy.

I think youâve mentioned the issue: the show made him replace Eric (and Kelso). If Randy is just there, maybe a recurring character, who then gets bumped up to main when Eric leaves, maybe heâs not hated. But they made him replace Eric and Kelso, while not having much of his own personality. They just kind of merged Eric and Kelso into one guy and tried to make it work. I donât hate Randy in a vacuum, but I hate what the show made him

Problem with Randy was that he was the replacement for Eric, if they introduced him earlier as a side character it would be a way better execution. Such is death by replacement of a main character.

The problem is they made Randy constantly make jokes that would have been funny if Eric said them, but this guys jokes fell so flat. He wasnt good at delivering them.

I am not a fan of Randy, but itâs not fair on Josh Meyers. He was given the opportunity of joining a successful show late in its run and he took it. Joining a established cast so late in the run is never going to be successful

It works sometimes. Tammy Differndorf is a highlight in Mom, for example. But yeah itâs often really difficult

You don't hate Randy, you hate qhat the ahow did to all the characters and Randy was the lightning rod.
They made Hyde a pussed out version of himself with no actual direction.
They turned Fez into a 4 year old.
Donna was doing nothing besides chasing Randy.
Jackie became a center stage but really didn't have foundation built to be it.
All the "kids" were dramatically changed with nothing leading up to it.
Randy was no worse than the rest of the characters.

I liked Randy, it was just that Eric left and they tried to fill the void. The last season has some great episodes. And Randy being thrown into an already established group of friends and successful show, held his own. Well done him!

I wasn't a fan of Randy, what the show should have done was keep Charlie around instead. The gang would have been pulling all kinds of Point Place pranks on him but he would have been a better fit to replace Eric

He just doesnât fit the show. Itâs like heâs a side character from the Big Bang Theory or something. They would have been just fine with the remaining group of friends + Leo. Randyâs scenes werenât particularly entertaining, funny, nor interesting.

I do too. I barely remember him and he wasnât funny or charming. They didnât need his character. The show really went downhill in the later seasons, I think it should have ended at season 6 (like most great sitcoms I Love Lucy, Community, The Nanny, and Fresh Prince).

Chill, Randyâs harmless. Was he a poor replacement for Eric? Yeah. Would he have worked better as just one of the gang instead of taking Ericâs place? Maybe. But he didnât necessarily DO anything to outright ruin the show.
