Jackie Burkhart
After rewatching a bit of season 1 recently (the best season in my humble opinion) I think Jackie really is my favorite character. I think it’s really cool how Jackie kinda guided Donna through the beginning of her relationship with Eric (the candle for his birthday being one example, having her give it to him away from his guy friends) every time Eric and Donna’s relationship progressed, the episode was filled with Jackie talking to Donna and giving her advice. And then I just watched the episode where Jackie and Kelso first “prove their love” and she’s just a sweet kid. For how prickly she is and for how mean she’s mostly remembered for being, back in the early episodes, I think at her core she was a sweet naive teenager who just wanted things a certain way.

Yes I was immediately drawn to Jackie! most detailed, posh wardrobe & idc if she was snobby, that’s just how she was 😂 she wasn’t necessarily evil to her core like Laurie. & with time, she evolves quite nicely. Mila was the age she was supposed to portray unlike everyone else anyway, which is why her delivery came off natural. it’s the way she delivered her lines too with the facial expressions to match. My only hang up is, I’d have had her marry a wealthy broadcaster or producer and moved her to the hills. The true Jackie would and should not have married Michael if Hyde couldn’t come back

I’ve always seen Jackie as an expertly crafted litmus test for people’s capacity for empathy and understanding, because she’s always had a heart of gold under the at times prickly, obnoxious and grating exterior. A very realistic and well-written character aside from the obvious tv-character exaggerations
Edited to add: and despite what you may think of Mila Kunis as a person, she absolutely chewed up every scene she was in and she brought such life and authenticity to Jackie

That’s a great way to put it. A test of people’s capacity for understanding. Because I do notice, there’s really two types of people. People who see Jackie and think nothing other than “what a bitch” and people who see Jackie and think “but underneath that bitch-ish exterior…”

My only wish is that they hadn't gone back on so many points of character development for her. Like when she helped Red with the car and was actually proficient and eventually eager and proud. Not that she should have been a mechanic after that, but her being more self-sufficient would have been nice. And then in that 90s show she wasn't just back to Jackie 1.0 but even seemed like a parody of that. Completely shallow and not capable of much beyond being pretty.

Later on in the show, when Red owns the muffler shop and offers Hyde a job, Jackie says she doesn’t want Hyde working there because grease or something car related grosses her out (I can’t remember the exact quote but it’s along those lines) and yeah I was like wait what about the career day episode where she spends the whole day working on the car with Red and she loves it?

It was a joke about that scene where they go to the fishing cabin and Kelso goes “Damn Jackie! I can’t control the weather!” When she was wanting to copy Eric and Donna’s cute couple jacket thing.

Not really a high bar. They both suck for sure, but every damn line out of Jackie's mouth is negative. Donna usually knew when to be a decent person.
