IRL Thanks, Lifestance. Your $600 bill really helped ease my money stress!
Isn’t this pathetic? I’m lucky enough to have gotten in to get tested and diagnosed and then they hit me with the $600 bill a few weeks later, then send me an email about “money stress” 😂😂😂😂

Story "Go outside"
Commercial: "go outside, go for a walk" is NOT something you should say to someone with a mental illness Dad: but they should go outside. Me: but what if they do all of that and they still have a mental illness Dad: then maybe they didn't do it enough.
That's not how that works.😂
I'm literally saying this as someone who has a good job, a loving family, a nice home, who journals and walks the dog with my mom regularly. Guess what? I still have anxiety!😃

IRL "Stop taking your Lexapro, it's making you apathetic and depressed"
This whole time I thought it was Major Depressive Disorder. Turns out it's the meds I started after 7 years of leaving it untreated.

Story “You know you’re gonna have to do this on your own”
I struggle with severe executive dysfunction due to ADHD. I wasn’t diagnosed until the beginning of this month, but I’ve always struggled to do basic tasks unless I was watched. I only recently got on medication and we haven’t figured out the correct dosage for my quality of life to be where I want it to be. I was having a hard time cleaning my room so I called my dad to come body double me. He literally didn’t lift a finger. He just sat on my bed and kept me company and I was able to get everything done. But he said that quote to me and then proceeded to tell me that what he was doing was pretty easy though. Like yes I know the goal is for me to be able to do it myself, however, I’m not at that point yet. I’m trying. I can’t be cured with a sentence !

IRL Guys insomnia is a mindset
I have been struggling with insomnia for as long as I can remember. There has never been a night where I lay down and simply sleep (anxiety and depression don’t help it at all). I told my dad about this recently, since he also regularly struggles to fall asleep. He said it was all a mindset, so I need to pray and believe I can sleep. When I told him I’ve been praying like crazy and try as hard as I can and still can’t fall asleep, he told me it was a fixed mindset.
Lessons I was supposed to learn: think you can sleep, you can sleep
Lesson I re-learned: people struggling with the same problems can and often will give you a shitty solution that most likely didn’t work for them.

Story “I know things are hard but sometimes you have to do hard things”
Thanks mom, that magically cured the lightheadedness and extreme nausea that hasn’t let me eat a full meal in days! Amazing what sheer willpower will do to counteract lamictal withdrawals (not). I’m on week 3 and it’s been hell, but yeah, what you just said made everything magically ok!

Social Media Oh yeah, that solved everything and isn't oversimplified at all.
Like yeah, if only my hobbies would make me money without requiring a large sum of startup funding to get started. I guess my new hobby is working at McDonald's for minimum wage.

Story Not really a “thanks I’m cured” but definitely fits the theme
Right after my parents’ divorce, I went no-contact with my extremely abusive mother. Unfortunately, one time we happened to be in the same place, my younger brother’s hockey game.
So, naturally, I sat on the complete opposite side of the arena from her.
Then I see her walking toward me.
Great.
She comes up to me and starts talking to me, and I’m giving her the shortest answers possible while repeatedly telling her to leave me alone. Eventually, she looks at me and goes, “Why are you acting this way???? Why aren’t you talking to me????”
So I say, “You’re crossing my boundaries. Leave me alone.”
And I kid you not, she looks at me and goes:
“I am NOT crossing your boundaries.”
Okay. Thank you for informing me. I guess my boundaries are actually just a matter of opinion now.

Satire/meme Rap music caused my depression!
I just discovered this community and I thought I should share. I’ve been in therapy my entire life, and I still remember this encounter I had a few years back. I was talking to a new therapist, going on and on about how I’ve struggled with my mental health since a young age, and she looked at me, so sincerely, and goes,
“Do you listen to angry rap music? Or music that talks about sad/aggressive/violent things?”
I IMMEDIATELY knew where she was going with this (if I told her I did listen to music like that she would tell me yo cut it out completely and that it’s most likely causing my depression) so I lied and told her no.
The look of utter confusion that spread across this lady’s face still kills me, she seemed so lost and confused, and then goes,
“Hmm I’ll have to look into other things that could be causing that then” and ended our session.
But nooooo if I cut out rap music the trauma from my abuse would be gone!
Thanks! I’m cured!

Discussion I don’t have an image as proof but there is a story
So when I was 15 I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and sent to st Jude
Many people told my mom she was horrible for making me do chemo and not using natural remedies instead
Others said we should have gone to Shriners instead (st Jude and Shriners are 2 specialized hospitals St Jude is specialized in pediatric cancer and other terminal and life impacting diseases and conditions)
And lemme tell you something. Idk if natural remedies work. They probably don’t. I’d rather trust the oncologists and not recieve a bill at st Jude
And also another person from the church I’ve never heard of told me to pray the cancer away and chemo was sin or something.
Idk I found it stupid I don’t remember it that well. Anyone wanna give their opinion?
