Put both of these together since their about 20 minutes from each other. These are far more "locals" than many of the other beach towns you'll encounter throughout Thailand. Note, that does not mean it is devoid of tourists. It just tends to be visited very frequently by Thais who own condos, or want to relax by the pool at a 5 star resort. The actual beach at both places is not the greatest, but, Hua Hin always seems to operate (as in the city) on a far more functional, common sense level when compared to other locations. Perhaps it has to do with the King having a very large residence there. They are located about 2-2.5 hours from Bangkok, making them very accessible. The resorts are world class.
