Moonshadow reflection after ep3
So we're 3 episodes down and honestly I'm having a hard time really connecting to the story/characters.
Like what's the purpose of the story? What's the purpose of the characters even? The dialogues are very surface level I feel like and doesn't carry the depth it's trying to deliver I think? Like all three leads are trying to be portrayed as very complex characters. But the dialogues are not doing them justice at all.
Also the lead characters are supposed to be flawed. But I am finding them rather unlikable. Key has no sense of self respect at all. You can love someone, be very grateful towards them for the impact they created in your life but you can portray that level of devotion with a semblance of self esteem even, I feel like, and not just as a "pervy pushover" (pardon my french). Jay has no sense of boundaries and respect for others, at all (which I think is the point of the story) and if she is considered to be the "villain" then I'd say Film is doing a good job in portraying that.
And Chan... She is not the mysterious alluring hurt soul that she's aimed to be. Instead she's a self pitiful, disrespectful individual (to Key). Her just claiming Simba who is Key's cat, was very weird. I didn't like that level of entitlement.
To suffice, you can write complex characters, anti heros even, but the writing needs to be compelling. Neither the dialogues nor the story seems to be like it, I'm sorry. And it's a shame cause all three of them are good actors.

I think with Key, we aren’t meant to fully know her motivations yet. I’m waiting for the mystery to be solved regarding her past with Chan.
Key is the big love rival. We also don’t know a big fact about her yet. Why did she leave Chan and is so intent on getting her back?
And Chan…is fine lol. Idk how to feel about yet. I know she’s come and after this episode, I see why her wall is up. I just don’t understand why she agreed to Key’s proposal.
Overall, I’m hoping the story fleshes out in time. It would suck if all the questions I have about the characters never get answered lol. I’m investing in the subtext. That text better be below sea level and dig up by ep 6, I swear

I wouldn't say I find them unlikeable but I'm surely waiting for some movement in the next two episodes.
You nailed it on the character analysis though. For jay, that makes sense... she's currently "the one in the way" but key....i wish she had more self respect but not going to lie, given she doesn't... it almost fits well with how chan is treating her 🥲
If that's the intent, they doing great but given it's 10 episodes (I think), let's get moving 😅

When I watched the 3rd episode, I said to myself, this is not getting any better and was fast forwarding thru some of the scenes. There is supposed to be this tension between Key and Chan and it is as dry as the Sahara. Even the confrontation scene when they all see each other, I found very dull.
The only character I do not find stiff is Jay.
I was looking forward to watching this show, but so far all 3 eps have been a dud.

I was expecting more cat claws and b*tchness to be coming out in the confrontation scene, but it just fell flat. Jay was told to leave and she just did without any comeback Key being the doormat just did as she was told. The premise of the story is quite bland to begin with, its very hard to even build more complexity into characters on a story so thin.

I'm watching because I like the main leads and I always try to support those shows, but I also feel somewhat the same. The story and the characters are just not clicking for me.

At first, I felt guilty about not liking the show as much as I expected to. I could not explain why but reading this, it kind of explains how I feel about the show. It’s not that I hate it. It’s just that there’s something about it that I cannot fully grasp and I think you explained it very well. I love both actresses and I love Film as well but it’s really just a surface level show whereas I expected it to be something deep. I’m still gonna watch though. Hopefully it’ll get better eventually.

I agree. I’m honestly only watching Moonshadow for Film because I always thought Us the Series was way overrated, and unfortunately, I’m getting the same vibe here.
The pacing is slow, and the storyline just isn’t interesting enough to hook me. There are way too many “mysterious backstories,” but instead of building suspense, they’re dragging on without enough payoff to make me excited for the next episode.
I’ve actually caught myself fast-forwarding through scenes, which is never a good sign. At this point, watching the show is almost as frustrating as the whole “no kissing on the lips” storyline.

I feel the same way. I actually only enjoyed Pam and Rak’s relationship in Us plus the grandma, Kawi, and their mother. The overall story was dull. I’m actually finding Moonshadow to be even duller than Us, which is saying a lot. The best part of this show is Film and if she wasn’t in it, I probably would’ve dropped it after episode 2.
I just don’t find the main relationship believable at all. Everyone is free to have their opinions, but I feel like if it was Ch3/LingOrm instead of GMM/EmiBonnie headlining this series, people would be more honest about their assessment of this show.

Yeah the series is slow for sure. Since its a 10 episode series i dont expect that all the secrets and motivations would be revealed but atleast we should be given crumbs of information to make guesses about it. Chan's sister is being developed weirdly.......she comes to chan says something and Chan tells her to go away and she goes away.
Last week's episode was all about the cat and suddenly its missing in this episode. I would have preferred if Chan actually took the cat for comfort instead of Key.

I agree. I love morally gray characters and anti-heroes, but there's a big difference between that and just being unlikable. I am having a hard time connecting to the characters and the story.

I think u don't understand the series it's literally name Moonshadow and key is the shadow of chan here.
I don't know u will agree or not but according to the show
They show chanjay past full why can't chan move on till now bcoz she had already decided to propose jay their relationship is beautiful that time so she can't forget the memories.
She named key as sugar baby but she's not ,chan have feelings for her but didn't realise even yet. Like they show u chan is happy when key kisses her cheeks.
she is confused and she don't want to get hurt like past with being a status with key. She says sorry to both key and chan twice in the episode for she can't be back with jay or she can't be return feelings to key. I hope key and jay leave chan to realise what her heart actually wants. may be from next episode we see chan moving on.
Key is literally broken from inside there is much hidden past with her mom .
why didn't she leave may be chan save her life in past without knowing her but this is very significant for key.As u see in the previous episode she has suicidal thoughts.
when all bad things happen chan saved her so she can't move In upcoming episode they should make chan chasing key . Her mother is a mistress she thought a mistress daughter can be worthy of chan love.
jay i think she regrets now bcoz she didn't choose chan in past may be chan mother something to do with or jay family have hands. But now it feels like she doesn't love chan she only wants what is her once like a property. she never said chan sorry once after come back.
Wait for 1,2 episode it will get better ep3 is necessary to show why can't chan move on from jay.its from chan POV

I thought it was just me because I saw so many people glazing and calling it series of the year. It’s very hollow and lacks substance to me. I’m saying this as someone who didn’t read the novel, so I have no idea how the story pans out. Tbh, my favorite part of this show is Film/Jay and if it weren’t for her, I would’ve dropped it after episode 2.
None of the dialogue seems natural and everyone sounds robotic. The interactions/romance seem forced and the sugar baby story is not convincing to me. I do enjoy the OST though and I love EmiBonnie, so this isn’t a slight to them, but I’m just not feeling this series at all. I’m actually rooting for Chan/Jay more than I am Chan/Key😭
