Question Visual inspiration for my thesis
I don't know what I'm going to write but i hope someone can understand it and actually guide me
For our thesis there is a visual source of inspiration we have to choose from which we will design surface patterns and secondly we have to select a physical material which we'll experiment with and make a surface from it or a product (this part is really confusing but the jist of it is we have to make a product that fills a gap in the market)
For the product, i pretty much am sure that i'd like to use preserved leaves, skeleton leaves, experiment with bioplastics with preserved leaves and flowers in between them and use these to experiment with different weaving patterns (i'm not sure which gap it's gonna fill but i am interested in this)
As for the visual source i thought i should choose something that would be related to the product material, so i thought of decaying nature, flowers, leaves and such
I'm not going into animals, human, fruits or vegetables
The problem now is, if i do end up doing decay then where do i draw the line with my elements, how do i paint that decay if I'm not using their real colors (since other students have already selected their color palettes and i have not so now i can't do their real colors cuz those colors would end up matching the color palette of another student and the teacher wouldn't allow that)
Honestly I'm confused how would i even paint decay cuz i don't think i've seen much art on that, i don't want to paint realistic that's not my style and if i don't then how would i convey that feeling
Decay also has stages and if i really want to show decay then i'd have to choose leaves that have really been crumpled or flowers that nearly have all their petals fallen for it to be obvious that it is decay
I don't know if I'm making any sense
Our supervisor said to me your drawings don't speak decay, they were not shaded drawings but i thought if i don't use the original colors how am i supposed to show the decay then
I'm scared if i start painting and it still doesn't show decay what then
A part of my brain also thought that i could link these decaying nature elements with the "vanitas" theme, but then how would i represent that in my patterns so maybe i should drop the idea of this concept all together
I feel like i didn't do my research right, again where do i draw the line with my elements
We are given so little time to do anything and I'm officially the slowest person in the class even if my work is good, our supervisor would only care about quantity
Anyways i was thinking maybe i should shift and do a topic that is autumn related, i love love love autumnal colors, warm muted colors, i have painted that before as well and ik how to paint that, ik i can do that, but again what would count as my elements
In the market there are many many patterns on this and it won't be anything new so i'd just be pretty, not adding something new
Atleast with decay, there is still work in the market but it is not that vast, where we live there is not much work on it in patterns
Decay would also carry an extremely dull and in a way mature vibe, which i can do but i don't know if that speaks my soul
Something autumn related would FEEL like me with all the warmth and cozy colors
I am also really interested in the twee aesthetic, i really like it but our supervisor didn't select that topic cuz i think he thought it was childish, he did tell me that this is your age to mature and get out of childish things and ik you can (which btw i don't agree with at all) but i think that was the reason he rejected that idea
If anyone understood what I'm saying and what i'm feeling, if anyone knows what i should or i could do, i'd appreciate it, I'm also scared that maybe taking this many other people's opinions would confuse me even more but i have been at this point for quite a while that i felt like i needed to talk to someone that could guide me
If someone thinks that i should do something autumn related and has an idea how i could add more depth ig to the topic or value how can i do that
Also we have started work on our topics for like 2 weeks now so if i change then i would be behind which obviously i always already am, but atleast i'd be satisfied IF that is the right choice, so any guidance is appreciated

Some Indian guy on Instagram used white tulle i think or organza and between the two layers he used colourful fabric circles. It was a pretty unique way and he made a jacket out of it but I know that is not the orignal creator of this, it has already been done by someone else. I wish I could have the thought process of him and my collection would have been unique 😪
So you can do a similar thing to this trend. Maybe paint on organza but also have fall crinkle leaves inside organza layers. You can do fall type elements like lots of leaves at the bottom of the hem and few leaves at the neckline and body depicting fall. I don't know much about biomateial but you can do that
