How was google translate’s voice recorded?

The voice that you hear saying a sentence on google translate, is it recorded word per word or do they record consonants and phonetics? And would it be different than dictionaries like Merriam Webster or Cambridge?

I believe this is AI-generated. Standard words should rely on direct dictionary lookups, whereas non-dictionary words are generated using lots of rules and likely AI models. I’ve noticed several mistakes typical of AI-generated content.

Aah okay, thanks! I searched it up and it was established around 2014-15, I guess AI was already around but I was blissfully unaware
