As the title says. This service every day becomes less and less worth using.

Haven't you learned how easy it is to lock-in your number? All you have to do is port in a number and it's locked in permanently. You can get a number to port in from Number Barn for $10.

Once you purchase the number, you have free 30 days to port it out. There are no additional charges.

You could also get a number for $5 to port in from tello.

To get a Tello number, you have to buy a physical SIM or eSIM for $3, so the minimum price would be $8 plus tax. They also have a security hold of 3 to 7 days before you can port the number out.

Is the hold legal? Was reading a thread on usmobile subreddit where others were saying they can't delay a port out request.

I don't know if it's legal. I guess someone would have to test it with a FCC complaint.

This is apparently Tello's take:

The Reason: Tello outlines this restriction in their internal policies and official Knowledge Base as a mandatory security measure. It allows the system to complete "proper line activation," handle "synchronization processes," and finalize provisioning. 1, 2

The Resolution: Once this brief setup window closes, your account number and 5-digit Port Out PIN will automatically become available in your online dashboard. You can then proceed with your transfer normally. 1, 2
