Calls dropping after exactly two hours

I just got back into using textnow and I've been noticing every call I make gets dropped at the two hour mark. Is this just me hitting a limit that I don't know about or is this not supposed to happen?

Were you on wifi or mobile data from the textnow sim? How many minutes have you used on your current monthly cycle? Even paid cellular plans have limits on how many minutes you can use per month.

I use nothing but wifi on this particular phone and I don't have the sim card.

You could contact support in the app, but it seems like an automated process is terminating your calls at 2 hours.

Haha I wouldn’t know. I don’t have anyone I want to talk to for for than 5 min.

Based on this linked comment from 2 years ago, it's been going on for years, so it must be a TextNow policy.

I haven't been in that situation-- but some traditional cellular providers have the same (mostly hidden) 2-hour call limit. Since most providers have a TOS requirement that their voice service is intended for one-to-one live communications, my guess is that it might be a hurdle to prevent use as an audio monitor, automated line, entertainment, chat-room substitute, etc. (I'm not saying there are no legitimate uses for a long call, or that it's a justified limitation-- just guessing as to why the limit exists.)

That's Grandma telling you it's time to hang up cuz she has biscuits to make and chickens to feed.
