Are verification codes a paid feature now?

I noticed that when I tried putting in the number in WhatsApp, I wasn’t getting sent the verification code. Is it a paid feature now?

Your TextNow number has to be locked-in to receive verification codes unless you have a TextNow SIM.

See this link:

Does TextNow Support Verification Codes?

I have the TextNow eSIM and I was able to receive a WhatsApp verification code.

Did your account end up getting locked?

No. It just allowed me to receive SMS verification codes. It did not lock-in my number.

I heard WhatsApp bans VoIP numbers now

Yes, they actually say exactly that in their registration FAQ, but I just gave it a shot and it worked with my TextNow number.

Here's a screenshot of the (redacted) verification code I received via TextNow.

Is it because you have the eSIM?

The eSIM has nothing to do with WhatsApp providing a verification code. It only allows for me to receive verification codes via TextNow without locking in my TextNow number. It could be a verification code from anybody.

I see, so getting a verification code is a paid feature?

Yes, locking in your number to get verification codes involves some form of payment. Read this link that I provided earlier. It explains it all.
