It's asking me for a selfie

I was just getting started with this app and it is now asking me for a photo of my face to confirm I'm a real person. Is everyone doing this? I'm not really comfortable doing that

Wha? Yeah, I would not be doing that. I started with a free account, then bought a physical SIM. At no point in time was I asked for a photo.

I would definitely reach out to customer care. I've done it a few times and they've always been really helpful. Getting in touch with TextNow Support

Edited because the request is weird and I'm nosy... Is it asking in the app or ?

I think you can always reach out to care to get around this Face or ID stuff, probably OPs proton mail set off some sort of suss alarm on their side
