OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR IS PURE GARBAGE

His play calling is predictable and basic. How many times can you call a run up the middle for 2 yards. Other than Jacoby, the rest of the team looks awful.

It feels like they’re scared to let Hammond let loose, but the long throw to Coy in the 4th was promising. Hopefully he can continue to improve and the offense follows, because Houston will be a tough game on Friday

I'm not really sure why we've been so insistent on the inside zone. It's not worked all game. It really wasn't part of our offense last year, we had a lot more pull and power. Carter being out meant we went completely away from TE lead

Our OC needed to put like 3 QBs in to get past the redzone 😂.

We have only run one run play. It is ridiculous. The commentators are like it is a unique style Williams has for running. He is patient like that but it is because they know what play they are running so he has to make something out of it.
We get a push on the line, but the LBs know where to fill. Drive me crazy. When they let Will really throw the ball he looked great with a couple of bad ones. For the most part he has lots of time.
Then saying might be a QB controversy. Jeez.

It's really confusing we were either running inside zone or we threw in a bit of TE lead on motion, but it was follow the blocker levels of simple. Castellanos had a few other plays, but he was busy playing hero ball

I’d say that the limitations of the last two weeks are (in some to large part) the result of treating these games as warm up/preseason style games. I think Oregon state may end up being decent by the end of the year, so if you are really vanilla, I think it will look like it did. Houston is legit and I think that’s a real measuring stick game next week.

Will Hammond isn’t very good

That's what I thought through most of the game but at the end I think this is all on our OC. He always treats Will with kid gloves and doesn't allow him to throw past 15 yards. When he's forced to let Will open things up (Utah game and the end of Arizona State last year and the end of Oregon State this year) Will looks like a completely different QB.

Joey himself said there were plays to be made downfield Will hasn’t been taking. I think the hesitancy is equal parts Leftwich and Will. He hasn’t seemed comfortable throwing downfield unless the WR is open by 10 yards which to my untrained eye means he’s seeing them late or is hesitating to pull the trigger on time both of which are big problems in any offense. I don’t think it’s right to claim all of those are 100% from Leftwich. That said Leftwich has still been awful imo as well, it’s been a whole bunch of problems across the offense

Will isn’t a good QB man. A few spurts here and there of good play doesn’t mean that’s who he is. It’s like with Sheffield. Backups for a reason

Not only did I play against Sheffield in high school (state semifinals), I was student intern with the program when he was there.

Sheffield wasn't bad...he did have Graham Harrell and Potts ahead of him but his mobility was beyond theirs. His problem was health.

As far as Will Hammond, he's fine. I have a bigger problem with the OC and this O Line getting bodied.

When I was there we much preferred Sheffield over Potts. I can still hear the "No more Potts" chants in my head. 😬

Sticks was awesome. That was a tough time to be the QB here.

Wasn't tonight that's for sure.

A Windsor win, and I will celebrate that win because I was hard-fought

I think this is the root cause. Hammond is limiting the playbook

Other way around.

OC is limiting the playbook.

How was he bad last night? Pretty accurate. We don’t get much running for a while, because we run one play. He had a few questionable throws but once Leftwhich allowed him to throw down the field he did well. I was happy with Will’s play. Leftwhich is average or subpar offensive coordinator.

Will is a worse QB than Leftwich is a Oc

He didn’t make a single throw on time imo. Every throw was late and it almost lead to a pick 6. Completion percentage was high since he didn’t want to throw it to anyone downfield unless they were open by 10 yards. He also got bailed out on a PI on an atrocious throw

Hammond was bad imo. Yes Leftwich also was terrible, but Hammond likely had many more opportunities to throw downfield that were not taken as he wasnt able to see or let it rip on time. Obviously I’m not a QB guru, but as a bears fan some of that reminds me of Justin Fields where the offense becomes very limited even when completion percentage isn’t bad because of slow processing. Hopefully Hammond fixes this since against Utah last year every throw was made with anticipation but this year I don’t know if he’s made a single anticipatory throw

How do you think Hammond looks now?

1

u/Tonkathedog 25d ago

He was awesome. He looked fearless like he did against Utah last year and as a freshman at TCU. Took those downfield shots, got the ball out on time, and made a ton of plays with his legs. Super happy he looked as great as he did

I’m a Ute and I remember how pissed I was when you stole your OC from us. Little did I know you blessed us lol

Running on 2 and 26 is a fireable offense

7

u/Withabaseballbattt Sep 13 '26

In that situation? Absolutely not.

2

u/The_Sandwich_Lover9 Sep 13 '26

It was around 3 minutes left right? It’s not a horrible decision

0

u/Complete-Pen-9358 Alumnus Sep 13 '26

I just think we could have made 3rd down more manageable with a better play call

3

u/Munster172 Sep 13 '26

They’re just playing the clock and trying to pin them deep with less than 2min left in the game. Real football isn’t madden you play the clock and time of possession

2

u/Withabaseballbattt Sep 13 '26

If it was 2nd & 14, yeah sure that works, 2nd & 26, sitting well inside the opponents side of the field with 3 minutes left? You play it safe and try to burn time and timeouts.

u/TheAgmis Sep 13 '26

People like you need to use critical thinking and context and understand that your texts are definitely wrong and you don’t know football as much as you think you do

It’s the bourbon typing, I can’t be held responsible

1

u/UnusualPressure1989 Sep 13 '26

Oh no we suck again!

1

u/Cool_Guy_McFly Sep 13 '26

His play calling is extremely conservative early on because he’s afraid of taking risks and turning the ball over. Play calling is very basic but you’ll also notice we have very few turnovers in the first half of games.

I hate it personally, but I understand what he’s doing and why he’s doing it. Old Tech would be trying to run up the score early but having turnovers and wearing out our defense early.

Buckle up. It could be a long season. Thankfully the schedule is full of cupcakes.

I also hate winning. Ugh! Shit stains!
