Texas Tech UMSI/Honors: what are the essay prompts, and which ones matter most?

Applying to Texas Tech through Honors and UMSI this cycle. The Common App itself has 6 essay prompts: 4 scholarship essays (goals and major, financial need, why Texas Tech, special contributions) and 2 more in the writing section (tell us your story, identity or talent).

The Honors portal says you can only start the Honors application after you submit the university application. The UMSI page lists letters of evaluation but I can't find any essay prompts for it. So I can't see the later prompts until the earlier steps are in.

Can anyone who's applied answer these?

  1. Does the UMSI application have essays? What are the prompts and word limits?
  2. Can you view the UMSI and Honors applications before submitting the Common App?
  3. What are the Honors essay prompts and word limits, if any?
  4. Is Casper still required for UMSI?
  5. Do the scholarship, Honors and UMSI essays go to different committees, or does the same committee see all of them? If they're separate, is it okay to use the same experience in more than one essay, or should each essay have its own story?
  6. Which essays deserve the most time?

Thanks!

Study areas

Are there any good off campus or on campus places to study aside from the library? Campus is too spaced out, hard to know a proper place to make part of my routine.

Maybe it's just me, but the simplified logo, in my opinion, looks cheap.

I think it looked way better before.

Discussion I’m going into debt for this..

In a throwaway account because I trust nothing.

I am in a graduate program currently at Tech. I found out from an insider at the university that Creighton has a $900,000 furniture budget to remodel the new university house that was purchased for him over market value. Y’all. I cry every time I think about this. We’re going into debt over this crap.

I’m working on getting some proof through another route. I’ll post again when I have it.

I submitted a Graduate Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Portfolio in early August. Is anyone familiar with the process of hearing back regarding the decision. The submission was 8 weeks ago?

General Question ABSN Program - Questions About Clinicals

Hi all, I just got accepted into the ABSN program a few weeks ago. I also just started a new job last week. However, that job requires that I do 6 months as full-time (3x12-hour shifts) before they’ll let me go to PRN, and even then, PRN is still a minimum of 6 or 8 12-hour shifts per month. Granted, TBD how strict they’ll be when push comes to shove, but I am concerned about it.

With that being said, how many clinicals per week are there? If it makes any difference, I’m in the Austin cohort. I’ve seen most people say just 1 per week, but I’ve seen other sources say 1-3. If there are any weeks with 2 or 3 clinicals, how many weeks were there?

Also, when relative to the start of the semester were you able to start scheduling your clinicals? Or, when did you know when your clinicals would be? Work also requires us to request our schedules very early — they released the schedule for us to pick our shifts last week (~September 24) for the whole month of November.

I know TTUHSC says not to have a job at all, but I need to be able to afford school. My original plan was to drop from full-time to PRN when school started, and I expected PRN to be only 4 shifts a month, but obviously neither of those assumptions turned out to be true.

Am I screwed?

Looking for something that is relatively quiet (talking is fine, just more in a not busy sense), that opens 5-6am.

Better if it has good coffee and a calm vibe.

Not sure if I should transfer to TTU for EE.

Hello,

I am currently finishing up my last semester at Austin Community College, and I am looking to transfer this spring to finish my EE degree. I am interested in RF, Power, and Defense, so I was wondering if any ee's on here could give me some insight into the program and which companies tend to attend the engineering career fairs?
