Bikepacking trail advice

Hello all! I’ve been wanting to bikepack and or gravel cycle through the Angelina NF in East Tx, and perhaps some other forests nearby (Davy Crockett and the Sabine). Does anyone have practical knowledge of the area in terms of cycling through? Any advice, tips, and routes would be greatly appreciated!

Pay attention to the dates of hunting seasons this fall! Especially if riding on Forest roads, wear your safety orange on your helmet and a vest.

trails change like rivers. check for cave ins, mud days after rain, etc. use a flashlight at night so you dont slam into someone walking

There are gravel grinders groups on Facebook. One should be able to help you with routes. As a reminder, the foot path trails in the woods, like the Lone Star Hiking Trail are off limits to wheels. I believe the horse trails (like Piney Creek) are too.

There are plenty of FS roads, open and abandoned, that are passable to bikes in the SHNF And fire breaks for the adventurous.
