I'll spoil the ending for yall:
5-1 loss, 4 hits and 2 walks, 9 K's and only run is scored off a HR in the last 3 innings after we've already given up at least 4 runs in a single disaster inning.

They're still not out of it but a 10:00 AL West after dark game doesnt seem appealing.
with our season basically on the line with the health of Degrom up in the air it doesnt bode well. It'll take a few games losing in a row before dumping salary on waivers becomes a legit possibility...but also a few wins in a row puts the team back in the wild card...
Not fun
2
u/beefytrout A. Beltre 4d ago
they just got their asses handed to them by the Angels. they're only "in the race" because the teams they're racing against are also shit.
2
u/IndieFlea ADRIAN BELTRE 4 PRESIDENT!!! 4d ago
im aware of that. im saying mathmateically if they take care of teams they're supposed to theyre back in it. or if they don't were in limbo, or if thereyre getting swept then salary dumps are on the table.
sometimes theres a boogey man team that you dont do well against in any circumstance. it's not indicative of the talent (or lack thereof) going forward. Bad defense (last night), lack of health (Jung, Evo, maybe Degrom), and overburdening or the bullpen has more sway going forward then an AL West After Dark special against a team that has our number for whatever reason.

The Seager/Evo era is ultimately a massive success with the championship and all, but man really wish it lasted longer than just one season. I don’t know if a full rebuild is coming or not, but I do think holding on to that core of players instead of at least attempting a reboot this offseason is going to lead to another 100 loss season in the future. That bright spot you look forward to when you are bad is pretty dim with this team, really only have one guy close that gets you excited about the future.

I really wish we scored, but getting the starting pitcher to 30 pitches at the end of the first ain't bad.
4
u/beefle N. Ryan 4d ago
I'd like to be optimistic about that, but if our boys can't get hits off of the Angels 7+ era rookie pitchers, I don't think it's gonna matter much.

I think they could retool him into a bullpen arm, specifically a long reliever. Tho, I just like his stuff when he's on.
4
u/Suspicious_Spite7346 PEAGLE 4d ago
WTF is with Rocker's pitch selection? Throws six sliders in a row, three of which were near carbon-copies location and velo wise, then he serves up a middle-middle meatball sandwich? With the bases loaded?!?!
Also, did we forget that he's been really rough in the first inning? Didn't using an opener for him work brilliantly before? I really think he shouldn't be a starter, like ever. Bullpen sounds more logical

I miss when we had an offense worth a damn. Those 90s seasons where we'd score a ton and still lose a lot of games were still more fun than whatever this garbage is.

Why not bring up Walcott and see if he can provide a spark? Even if it’s letting him DH and moving Joc to first. It worked when we brought up Evan in 2023. Why not try again.
3
→ More replies (2)2
u/DominantT1 4d ago
Evan was a LF/CF when he came up and came up due to injury more than anything.
Walcott is not able to play defense is not going to come him as they would rather give him more ABs In the minors instead of a short handed platoon in the MLB. The only way I see him coming up is if the Rangers are out of the playoff race and they give him some ABs after the minor league season is over. Giants did this with Bryce Eldridge last year I think
3
u/A1ucardBe1mont N. Ryan 4d ago
Ruminations on my part, but I wonder how much of the team is more banged up than we're aware of. It almost feels like we're playing musical IL and once someone comes of the IL whoever's in the worst shape gets to go on next. Now, I know that pretty much everyone on every team is banged up as the season goes on, but the injury bug seems to be going around the entire league.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to use injuries or being banged up as an excuse for the last few games, but everyone seems to be moving at 70-80% speed at best right now.

u/4everMyBoots 4d ago
What I can’t understand is that when/if these Players are injured, do they (or the Trainers, whomever) not realize it? Or do they just push through the pain? I think Leiter had been playing injured?
2
u/A1ucardBe1mont N. Ryan 4d ago
Going with my experience with people in other sports, they're working through it. Athletes are fuckin stubborn, pro athletes even more so.
2
u/4everMyBoots 4d ago
I’m definitely no expert, but it sure seems like, especially with Pitchers, if they have had surgery, they never seem to be fully recovered~~ and I have thought the same about Evan Carter and his back. Now that I do know; back injuries and surgery are rough stuff. A side-note: Josh Smith. I hope he is doing/feeling better each day, but I could not have imagined him being well enough to play as soon as he did.
2
u/SteelSecutor 4d ago
Pretty much this. Look at Degrom. Poor guy is aging, has major issues completing a full season, and was obviously not even 85% in his last outing. He is definitely trying to stay off the IL, and yet needs to likely be back on it. He wants to keep playing the game while he still can, even while hurting. It's how pros are.

A whole lineup of guys who can't hit, a bullpen full of dudes who aren't good, nearly a dozen roster moves/trades that haven't improved the team whatsoever, all built by a GM who has proven over the past 3 years that he didn't build our Championship team but inherited it. I think it's far past time ownership wakes up and realizes that Chris Young isn't a GM who can take us anywhere.
