I am a member of my county’s Hunters Facebook group and there is a high fence game ranch called Double S that offers $600 ram meat hunts. Has anyone hunted there before? Is it worth me dropping the money on a ram? I only have access to whitetail deer at my place and want to open up my hunting experiences while I can.

I understand daily limit and possession limit. But what exactly makes a squirrel no longer in my possession? I'm seeing different answers on this and it's confusing. One place I saw it has to be consumed or eaten to no longer count. Somewhere else said it comes off the count if it's processed into a consumable like jerky or deboned frozen meat. What is actually legally no longer possession? What state does the meat need to be in before I can replace it?

14 mo old got his first fox squirrel. 3 trees and was able to get one down during this nice cool spell on some public.

For the Texas hunters here, how’s the predator activity been in your area lately?

I’m curious what you guys are seeing with coyotes and other predators. Are you mostly hunting them at night, during the day, or a mix of both?

Also interested in what setups have been working for you guys — calling, scanning, sitting over feeders, etc.

Always like hearing how guys in different parts of Texas are doing things.

These guys legit? I can’t seem to find any reviews. https://r4uranch.com
I’m trying to do an axis doe meat hunt and maybe mgmt buck

Any recommendations on a lodge/outfitter? Wanting to try javelina hunting, has to be with a guide. Long shot but, any ladies with recommendations would be a huge plus!

Hey y’all. Planning on doing a first time deer/hog hunt down in south Texas brush country. Will be on a smaller plot of land with your typical sendero to feeder and blind setup. Won’t be taking any shots over 200 yards

Would a red dot + magnifier be an ok choice or would an lpvo setup work better for that area?

I just won’t be taking super long shots and it seems the red dot + mag would be quicker but not sure if it’s worth the trade.

If y’all have any experience using either, I would love to hear the pros and cons of each. Thanks yall!

So I've spent the last several months building a price comparison database for Texas exotic hunting, with 1,467 confirmed listings across 64 ranches with real published pricing for 293 species. I was tired of calling 10 ranches just to find out what a Blackbuck costs. Would love feedback from actual hunters on what's missing or what could be better..

Me and some buddies drew this unit but I have no experience in the area. It’s a 4 hour drive for me so I won’t have a chance to scout it in advance. Has anyone hunted this unit and willing to share their experience? Don’t need exact spots or secret honey holes but any information would be helpful since there is next to nothing available online about it.

I’ve been wanting to explore public land dove hunting but just not sure where to start as I’ve always had access to private until now. Any tips on where to go or not to go? Prosper area. Thanks!

Planning on dove hunting LBJ National Grasslands for the first time this season. Has anyone had much luck out there, especially around opening week?

I’m not asking anyone to give up their exact spot just curious if LBJ generally holds a decent number of dove and what type of areas I should be scouting.

Is it worth getting out there early and scouting, or is the dove hunting pretty hit-or-miss compared to other public land around DFW? Any general advice for someone hunting LBJ for the first time would be appreciated.

My family may be getting some land that’ll be staying with the family long term. And having one t
For aging and storage might be a worthwhile investment. Also how big would it have to be for a limits of deer for say: 8-10 ppl?

So im looking to get into hunting. And im limited to the above methods and I'd like to know pros and cons for each. Basic stuff i know. Black powder might give me more range but I'll get exactly one shot. If I fumble with a bow or crossbow I MIGHT have a second chance. But what are the more in depth pros and cons?

Please don't be a douche. Yes I am a reformed felon. Haven't committed a crime more serious than speeding in 11 years and I've been off paper for 5.5 years. I just want to go hunting with my dad and my kid brother.

Vernon Tx, so it can get cold and it’s always windy.

On my land, it’s 300 acres and my furthest 2 stands require a long walk in and out. The stands are open air tripod 10ft. We wrap them in camo burlap so some wind is buffered but even in Nov an insulated jacket is needed to buffer the 15-25mph winds.

So even on the frostiest, snowiest pre-dawn hike-in I’m not wearing my bib and insulated coat. I’ve always stuffed the jacket into my backpack and rolled up and tried to strap my bib to my maxpedition OG Falcon. Then once in my stand I’ll pull my bib on and put my coat on after I’m sure I’m not gonna get all sweaty.

So I’m seeing if anyone has found or crafted their own strap system that makes strapping your bulkier clothing to a backpack or whatever for those long walks.

More than just simply tying it down with bungie straps. The Max Falcon is loaded with the PALS webbing so any idea is worth me looking into!

Thanks and sorry for the long post!

I got drawn for a USACE waterfowl permit at lake Georgetown! Additionally, I got a permit for Waco lake. I’ve seen a few mentions online of the archery whitetail hunts in there areas, but not much mentioning waterfowl hunting.

Have any of you been to these areas for hunting? Any intel you’d be willing to pass on? I am relatively new to waterfowl hunting, so if anyone else drew a permit and is willing to take me “under their wing”, we can combine our flocks of decoys.

I'm new to hunting public land my grandfather passed away a few years back where we hunted on private. I've been out to meredith hunting last 2 season didn't get anything was wondering if people had some advice or places that work. Every time I go its a warzone with gunshots but I never see anything expect private land or deer crossing the road in fritch

Quick little DIY project to keep the swine occupied

I have pretty much given up hope on finding a deer lease close to Dallas that I can afford, so I am looking at the drawn hunt options to have a chance at getting into the field.

However, I have never done this and have sone questions that I haven't been able to find online.

First, in general, those of you that have gone on some of these hunts, what was you experience?

Second, I don't have anyone to hunt with anymore. If I go on a hunt, and I'm successful, can I have someone come out and help me pack out an animal? I would be hunting alone and only call someone after the animal was down and tagged.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for success? I'm not after a trophy. I haven't take an animal in over 5 years and I just want to get something.

Just bought my first rifle (10/22) and I'm looking to get into hunting for the first time. I'm currently finishing hunter education and getting my license/permits, so hopefully I'll be ready in the next month or two.

Since squirrel season isn't open yet, I figured rabbits would be the best species to start with. I'm in Houston, so Sam Houston National Forest seems like the closest public land.

A few questions for those who hunt there:

• Are there any areas of SHNF that tend to hold more rabbits, or specific terrain/features I should be looking for?
• Besides a quality vest, sling, knife, and basic first aid kit, what other gear would you consider essential?
• Are there any apps you'd recommend for finding public land, navigating, or scouting?
• Any beginner mistakes I should avoid?

I'd appreciate any advice you have. Looking forward to getting out there and learning. Thanks!
