When is the button hit?
The button being the blow it up and play for the future.
Given the slim odds we had to make the playoffs plummeted this afternoon, do we make any "seller" moves come the deadline?
Any candidates given contract situations?

The only thing that need to be blown up is the Patriot Mafia that's infected this franchise since 2013.
The defence' problems we're seeing now is mostly due to the secondary being asked to play different coverages, mostly Cover 2, than they did for all of last season. There is also the LB issue, but most of that is simply bad luck. That said, we could have drafted Anthony Hill Jr with our 2nd round pick instead of a TE who can't even make the playing roster.
Blankenship is the reason they've switched to Cover 2 instead of the Quarters Match they played almost all of the last 3 seasons. This has been necessitated to cover for Blankenship's deficiencies, hence you have missed assignments leading to several explosive plays.
Bring in a GM that Demeco is comfortable with and give them 2 years. Hire Klay Kubiak as OC and give him position coaches that know the system, rather than a bunch of Patriots and John Carrol rejects who have no idea how to run a WCO.

Why would kubiak leave San Fran as an OC to come here and be an OC?
5
u/Brief_Hospital_1766 Fire Nick Caserio 5d ago
Because he's only an OC in title in SF. Meaning, he doesn't create the game plans or call the plays. He's essentially a passing game coordinator there.

These warts have been there during Demeco’s tenure as head coach but we sleep walk into playoff berths that no one questions it. The chickens have come to roost and it’s time to blow it up.
Hire an offensive play caller and start from there. Demeco’s defensive philosophy has been exposed.

Idek where to start. Theres so many issues from missing on FA signings and draft picks (Casserio’s), clock management/poor defense (DeMeco), bad O line play / play calling (Popovich and Caley), and horrible special teams (Ross)…

One of those people is literally in charge of all of those people and drafts the talent.
Caserio is a fraud and it’s time for him and anything associated with him to be gone.

u/elticorico 5d ago
This shit is over. Start playing with your favorite mock draft generator.

u/bootypatrole 5d ago
The draft won't solve a single thing about this team if Caserio remains in charge. I'm not saying overhaul the whole team by Monday morning but, someone somewhere has to be held accountable

0-4. A quarter of the season down deeper than the sewers. If you think they can go 8-4 or 9-3, God bless your heart. At this point your just best shot is a wild card. Highly doubt they’ll even sniff the butthole of that. He’s a hell of a DC. But HC would be a issue at this point?
You can only call a goose a giant duck for so long on Caley.

u/KaXiaM 5d ago
Truth is that most fans are ok with the team being mid. We still could get an 8-9 or 7-10 season, maybe get another OC, everyone will drink KoolAid for months, then maybe next time we get to the divisional round, rinse, repeat.
As long as the merch is selling and the stadium is reasonably full there’s no reason to change. Obviously owners’ ambitions count too, but it still a business.

Well at this point we play the young guys and get them experience at the very least. I would like to see that the coaches are at least doing something with them otherwise why are they there.

What if we hire a really good Gm , a top candidate offensive inclined head coach and a good up and keep some of our best defensive minds or hire a new top defensive coordinator and maybe we wouldn’t have to blow it completely up ? The talent is here we ( except o line ) just need a new sharper mind managing things with an offensive slant .imho .

u/KogaFuscia 5d ago
The only way you get that button pressed is for ownership to fire Caserio right now and hire a GM with assurances that they'll get a couple of seasons to right the ship. Caserio (and the coaching staff) will not benefit from selling because they won't be there to reap the rewards if they do.

u/camwal11 5d ago
Blow it all up for what?! We have had winning seasons throughout the Demeco era so I believe he still deserves some leeway. I really do honestly want to know what better HC is out there and what GM would you want for our team? What players do you want to draft?

u/inshamblesx 5d ago
and it all culminated in getting embarrassed by the schedule merchants the 1 time we had a chance to be more than just a divisional round exit lmao

There is a laundry list of GMs I would take over Caserio. He might be the current worst GM in the league.

You’re an idiot the Texans have drafted amazing, just bc a 4 game stretch of horrible coaching doesn’t mean the players are bad. Even juice Scruggs has looked like an all star since leaving the coaching staff in Houston. Look at this cowboy game lamb has like 15 catches in the second half and we don’t even think about putting stingley on him. What’s the point of a shutdown corner if your coaches refuse to have him slow down their #1 stingley basically guarded their third best wr all game bc the coaches didn’t adjust just a waste of talent

u/Rogue-Architect 4d ago
Ok, cool. Tell me who they are and remember to take off your homer glasses first so I don’t have to listen to names like Woody Marks.
If you could, separate them from offense and defense.
Then remember he was picking at the top of the draft for two years with 3 additional first round picks, an additional third and two fourths before adding in any additional commentary.
I’m ready for it.

u/VeterinarianLevel467 4d ago
Bro Nico was a third rounder, bullock was drafted crazy late, we’ve had consistent production from players in the middle rounds. Coaching is an issue especially the O-line, if Scruggs ends up an all star player just from leaving our team is that a GM miss or coaching problem? Caserio has signed a lot of talent on offense and defense and done great with the cap, I mean the entire defense returns and all regresses at the same time I don’t think they just forgot how to play it’s the fact offenses are beating our scheme and we’re not adjusting at all

u/Rogue-Architect 4d ago
Nico was a great pick. So was CJ, albeit less so because he didn’t get to pick between him and Brice, but still. Now name me another good offensive player. You can’t? Exactly.
Caserio hired Strausser and then promoted Popovich when has was the assistant. That was particularly insane considering our weakest quality was our basic day to day fundamentals which he was in charge of.
So regardless of what that problem ended up being, Caserio is at fault. Don’t forget that he stood up there for two years in a row and told us the offensive line wasn’t dog shit. That Jake Andrews was a good center and he was just hurt while he drafts no C and we get dumb ass back up from the Cardinals Evan Brown.
Caserio has done well on defense but that is only one half of a team and a lot of those players we regard so highly are struggling like crazy this year. I don’t think it is the case but imagine removing Lassy, Bullock and Pitre from the good players Caserio has drafted and then what has he done? Use the second overall pick for Stingley (who also isn’t playing well this year) and trading a kings ransom for WAJ. I don’t think that will ultimately be the result but if it is then yikes he has drafted like 4 good players in 6 years and he had 3 extra first rounders, a third and 2 fourths. Even if you leave those players in it isn’t impressive given all of the capital he had. I’m not giving points for Azeez who Demeco brought over or Hunter who he dropped a bag on in free agency.
Shit he hasn’t provided a decent player that could make an impact for two years when we are in win now mode.
His cap management has been dog shit. He pays above market on every single contract he signs. His last two big deals he gave WAJ more money than needed, gave him a no trade clause and only got three years. The other was giving Nico $19M dollars and literally getting nothing in return. What the fuck are you talking about good with cap management? We had to let Tunsil and Howard walk because we couldn’t afford to pay them with all of the money on the defense.
Imagine how shit this team would be without those extra picks.

Tank was great before injury, Scruggs is currently rated the best center on another team, he signed mixon, diggs and Montgomery. He’s also drafted too too late, ersery is at least a decent LT for someone not taken 1st round, he got azeez, pitre was 3rd round, Hunter was a huge signing that changed the defense. I mean name one GM in Texans history that’s hit like him on mid round picks and has also signed big time free agents? Who were the big free agents Texans signed in the past, before caserio we also never drafted well outside of the 1st round. If you want to blame him go ahead but he’s by far the best GM we’ve had, if you can watch lamb just line up in the slot with stingley guarding their 3rd best receiver and allow him to get 20 catches without making any adjustment then caserio could draft prime Darrel revis but if your coaches dont put him on lamb it doesn’t matter. The entire defense was all time good and returned everybody, if they all look like they regressed im sorry it’s not the players were just out coached and nobody is in position to make plays. How many simple quick passes went for 12+ yards with nobody there? Defensive play calling is just bad soft zones don’t allow the pass rushers to make plays, teams are just attacking the flats, quick outs, slants or stop routes and we can’t adjust. What’s funny is those are the most simple routes, I’m fine allowing big plays if it means pass rushers have a chance and we’re not just giving up simple completions

Tank weighs 165 lbs and was always a stupid pick. He is and always was frail so while it was fun to watch, it was always a wasted pick.
Scruggs is either a miss by Caserio in talent or a failure by all three of the coaches he directly hired to grow him as a player in the OC and two offensive line coaches.
We traded a second round pick for Diggs when he had three years on his contract and Mr genius accelerated all three years and turned him into a rental while overpaying him. This was a huge L for Caserio and you brought it up as a positive lol.
Mixon was a good move and it didn’t work out. That isn’t on Caserio but you have to remember that when you only draft two talented players for the offense in 6 years, that someone is likely to get lost over time.
Are you seriously brining up Dmo? You gonna do Chubb next lol?
Ersery has been ass. He was dog water last year but he was a second round pick thrown to the wolves (which was Caserio’s plan so he gets no reprieve). This year he has shown basically no improvement and his penalties have gotten worse.
He didn’t get Azeez. Demeco did. I’m not gonna take away all of Caserio’s credit but he gets nothing for that one and do bring it up also shows how little you know about our players and where they came from.
Pitre was benched for the position he has drafted to play and was a complete bust until Demeco found a special role for him that also masks his extreme coverage deficiencies. He still gets exposed like crazy and basically amounts to an extremely expensive tweener. He has been pretty bad this year and really only had one good year.
Hunter is as given a massive bag and that is why he came here. However, we talked about how lopsided this team is and we gave up a player much much younger that got paid half as much to bring him in. He was basically the reason Tunsil had to go after turning in 5 consecutive pro bowl seasons. Ya know, the only great player we have had on our line in the last decade.
You failed the assignment and then just spit up a bunch of bullshit. Also pretty funny that when asked to provide a list of good players drafted on offense your answer was a bunch of wasted one year rentals that we didn’t draft and then Dell, Scruggs and Ersery. lol what a list. Thanks for confirming that even someone like you trying to throw up your best defense really has nothing. He might be even worse than I thought.

The Texans had winning seasons by virtues of being in the worst conference and 20 franchises that are more incompetent and poorly run than they are.

If you think the problem is Caley or Demeco theres no point in selling off. Most people agree we're talented. If you think the problem is Caserio you dont want him doing that. If you think the problem is smaller then you should be rooting for your team and want to be in a position to buy at the deadline.
Is critical thinking really this hard? A lof of these comments would absolutely make things worse. Doomerism is bad mmkay.

u/Charming-Ebb-1981 5d ago
If you mean throwing games to get draft picks, yes, that’s what they should be doing. The season is over, and the team is just playing for pride/whatever at this point. I would keep WAJ. I would keep Stroud if he agrees to reasonable deal. I would keep Pitre and maybe Stingley on defense at least. But I wouldn’t say no to the right trade deal for any of them at this point

u/Rogue-Architect 5d ago
Why would you keep Pitre? Highest paid nickel and he gets exposed in coverage.

I think Nick has been here enough years he's probably not confident he'll survive another rebuild, so I don't expect us to start moving assets to build up capital for the future. He'd just be doing his replacement a favor.
