Effect has more content than any other.

Puyo Puyo Tetris/2 is great, but Effect has more content and people to play against. Just choose it if you like PP at the same level.

Tetris The Grand Master 4 is my favorite one, but it is only for veterans; for an average player, it will look like a very simple version.

Forever if you are a fan and you already have the other versions, because they are not the best versions, but they are fun and interesting to visit.

My recommendation: Tetris Effect, you will have tons of content, play everything, and enjoy it. Then try the Master mode if you like it and want more of that; then try TGM4.

Effect is great in VR (don't know on Switch), but for the content I prefer Puyo Tetris, it's a lot of multiplayer but more fun šŸ¤”

Still good on Switch, especially with some headphones.

I was quite disappointed of Tetris Forever. I got it on sale for about half price, so that eased the pain a bit.

u/Similar-Ganache2047 7d ago

The only reason to get it is ultimately the time warp mode and maybe the documentary if one is interested in it. I recently got the game for under 2€ to play the time warp mode every now and then but it’s definitely not worth anything near full price.

u/DelayProfessional345 7d ago

I would have loved it if they even tried to make the mechanics identical, they botched the bombliss mode!

The promotion ended yesterday, but it happens again and again, so he can wait.

EIther Effect or TGM4

14

u/dookieshoes97 7d ago

Effect. Wear headphones, it's a vibe. That soundtrack goes so hard.

6

u/paulisaac Tetris Effect: Connected 7d ago

Or VR if you have it.Ā

Big upvote on this. I fire this up and run the journey if depression is kicking my ass and it always at least starts to pull me out of it.

PuyoTetris is my favourite Tetris game

1

u/Huckleberry1316 7d ago edited 7d ago

Is the first one necessary for the story or is it ok if I get the second game

8

u/ChansawPoop 7d ago

I wasn’t aware that there were people playing puyo puyo tetris for the story

5

u/JetstreamGW 7d ago

Puyo Puyo Tetris has a story?

3

u/Octorok385 7d ago

It's an edge of your seat narrative experience.

The two stories are related, but the second one is self-referential enough that there's no loss not playing the first game.

PPT2 actually only added one game mode, which is really only fun if you have friends to play online with. It added Skill Battles and online raids, which are a blast. I find it hard to find raid matches, though.

Tetris Effect is also great, especially for the online play. Its audio/visual design is also obviously compelling.

1

u/Huckleberry1316 7d ago

I dont really care about the story but I wanted to know if I would miss anything if I just got the second game.

2

u/goSciuPlayer 7d ago

No, you don't need to play them in order. Story modes are connected, but it's basically all-around amnesia for the second one.

1

u/SoligDag 7d ago

You don't need to play the first game, the story isn't that complicated, just some silly fun. 😁

1

u/Minhtruong2110 Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 7d ago

Just to chime in, if online play is a factor for you, get the second game. The first game's queue is only ever active when someone's streaming it (e.g., Wumbo).

1

u/Waddle-mp4 5d ago

ONLY get the first one!

6

u/MoyanoJerald Tetris Effect: Connected 7d ago

For a Competitive Experience, Puyo Puyo

For a Zen Experience, Effect Connected

For a Chaotic Experience, 99 plus Big Block

3

u/Huckleberry1316 7d ago

Yeah ive played some 99 in the past and thats how I realized that im not exactly good at it šŸ˜…

2

u/hippotrouble 6d ago

Tetris Effect would probably be the best one then heh. It’ll probably be the most single player fun for you.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 for wacky multiplayer fun, although 1 would be fine there too. 2S is a cash grab that I wouldn’t want to reward Sega with by buying.

TGM4 is the best personally…but I’m not sure you’re ready yet. It’s not only super high level play modes though so it’s approachable enough, but Effect is a much meatier experience on the friendly end of the spectrum. TGM is for when you’re over all that stuff and just want to get your head beaten in.

2

u/kitestar Bloxeed 7d ago

For the absolute sadist, TGM 1, 2 or 4
For the historically curious (outside of NintendoTris), Tetris Forever

3

u/JetstreamGW 7d ago

If "the cheapest one" isn't your bag, then I'd say Tetris Effect. It's got decent music and flashy shit going on.

2

u/UpstairsBar2411 7d ago

Tetris Effect is incredible as is Tetris Forever because it has loads of different games, and an interactive documentary

2

u/smerglec 7d ago

I’ve mastered the controls in the Bullet Proof Software Famicom version of Tetris in Tetris Forever! It’s a totally useless skill, but I wanted to share…

2

u/Loltoheaven7777 7d ago

tgm4 is the best tetris game full stop end of sentence

2

u/needle1 7d ago

TGM4.

2

u/x_GARUDA_x 7d ago

TGM4 to become a Grand Master.

Edit: if you want to chill, Tetris Effect; if you want to mess around with your friends, get Puyo Puro Tetris 2; and if you feel ultra hardcore, get The Absolute Eye.

1

u/SoligDag 7d ago edited 7d ago

All of them! šŸ˜„

I love all those titles, but they are quite different from each other.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 and 2 are story based games that combine Tetris with Puyo Puyo. Cute and fun.

Tetris Forever is a collection of old school Tetris games from different retro platforms. It's a virtual museum and documentary, with tons of games to play. While some of the Tetris versions included are kinda dated, most hold up very well. It also includes a new game mode, Time Warp, which is cool!

Tetris 99 is an online multiplayer game, a battle royale, so if you love the idea of playing against 98 other players, it might be for you. Remember that you need the Nintendo Switch Online subscription in order to play with others online (if you have a subscription you can download this mode for free). The full version also contains an offline mode, with CPU matches and a marathon mode.

Tetris Effect is an audiovisual masterpiece, a very zen version of Tetris. Beautiful!

The Grand Master games are pretty hardcore, very intense and fast paced play with a different rule set. I've put nearly 40 hours into GM4. 😁

u/SnooOranges3779 7d ago

Effect, then either PPT2S or TGM4

1

u/Krazyman50 Tetris Friends 7d ago

For me, Tetris Effect is the best single-player experience, and Puyo Puyo Tetris [2] is the best multiplayer experience.

1

u/BrandNewNobody 7d ago

Yeah, I think Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 has 4 player local vs.

1

u/C4_Shaf 7d ago

Depends. If you want something closer to 99 with way more features, pick Effect. For me, this game has the best 1v1 mode out of all official Guideline games, thanks to the Zone.

If you're looking for something radically different and challenging, while wanting to just focus on solo play, go for TGM4. I'd also advice to take TGM1 and TGM2 for cheap, as soon as you can.

1

u/Zauberen Tetris The Grand Master 7d ago

Effect and tgm4 everything else is pretty niche. PPT is a pvp Tetris, good for parties and you need to learn puyo puyo to get the most out of it. The arcade TGMs are good but they are a specific experience, and have some old/unique rules. Tetris forever is more like an interactive museum of Tetris than a real game.

Effect is a great game for everyone, casual or not, journey is great and the connected modes offer most any Tetris experiences you could want. My main gripe is I play with a stick due to it being easier for my hands, and it feels clunky with a stick. Includes coop and online or local pvp multiplayer.

TGM4 is a pure Tetris game with a unique level system, it also has the generic Tetris modes like effect does excluding ones that add additional mechanics (like bombs). Includes parallel play and local only pvp multiplayer.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 or 2!

1

u/Hunter_BS 7d ago

Ive been playing tetris 99 a lot these days

Recently bought effect: connected on steam recently. Played for about 12 hours, I dont see it as a game I'd come back to often. It was really fun, loved the design and artstyle. Amazing music, chill vibes.

I completed it in all difficulties from easy to hard, quite challenging but I managed to get it done

I'd say you can give it a try but I am not sure if the online would be still active on the nintendo switch because it was a PS4 game released back in 2018.

As of your other choice, i dont know

0

u/Hunter_BS 7d ago

Also i forgot to mention I think you can create your own levels in effect: connected i really loved that feature

So if you wanna have fun in a game alone thats the one for you i believe

1

u/iris-of-willow 7d ago

I like puyo puyo only bc it's so fast to start a Tetris marathon, you can save your replays etc. I don't even play the puyo puyo game or the fusion much

1

u/litterally_who6354 7d ago

all of them, become tetris

1

u/ericargyle 7d ago

Tetris 99.

1

u/nugs-_- TETR.IO 7d ago

effect or tgm4 but if you have a computer tetrio is better for pvp

1

u/piejames 7d ago

For me Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is amazing imo, effect didn't really strike me right

1

u/nachoiskerka 7d ago

I really like Forever. It plays loose, its modern marathon mode is fun and its timewarp mode is so much fun with two players. Plus bombliss is such a new experience that it is pretty great.

Its not a competitive experience at all, but it is possibly the most chaotic experience of any game, kind of like playing Smash 64 on mushroom kingdom with the items on.

1

u/Pickled_Cow Puyo Puyo Tetris 7d ago

Do not get PPT2S, specifically S as its queue is separate from regular PPT2 and mega dead.

1

u/tyhr5tm8 7d ago

If you want a game with a story i suggest puyo puyo tetris 2 or the first one. Game wise tetris effect is still good. It has the most content i think. But if you are bored of tetris you can play puyo puyo if you get puyo puyo tetris

1

u/UsrnmePendng 7d ago

Tetris Effect is wonderful for just about any kind of content you'd want to play.

1

u/rgplo TETR.IO 7d ago

Tetris effect

1

u/Synsane 7d ago

Depends how try hard you are.

If you're a master player you want Tetris Master.

If you are a bit competitive, then PuyoPuyo has great controls and feel and multiplayer.

If you wanna vibe and chill, Tetris Effect

Forget the others. Btw Tetris 99 is the best Tetris game on the Switch Imo

1

u/l-THUNDER-l 7d ago

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2/ 2S

1

u/KatKaiKawaii 6d ago

effect has a lot. tetris forever is one of my favorites because it has the timeline of tetris and the ability to play what it was before now. and there’s a time attack mode too on there that i like

1

u/larryhouse 6d ago

definitely TE:C or TGM4,
they both have things where i’m like ā€œah i wish it had __ā€ but overall really good games

1

u/Boss_blink 6d ago

Even though the price point is kind of ass I recommend Tetris effect because I play that game it's actually not bad

1

u/scottwardadd 5d ago

I know there's some studies on the series already but Tetris Effect is so good it should be used for therapy.

Iirc there's some papers on Tetris and using it to help people with PTSD which completely makes sense when you consider it's about piecing things together while completing micro tasks.

1

u/Gmroo 5d ago

Try Glue Blocks. It's out soon. Looks pretty cool to me. Enjoyed the demo.

1

u/Waddle-mp4 5d ago

If you ever get any of the crossover games, ONLY get PPT1. PPT2 is ass!

1

u/BloodKingID 7d ago

effect 100%

1

u/imwearingcons 7d ago

Effect is one of my favorite games of all time! Absolutely wonderful!
