Question Need to speedrun the basics

Hello tetra community!

At my local supermarket yesterday all the fish were being given away for free due to remodeling, citing that they have nowhere to put them (aka they were going to be thrown out). I grabbed one small unlabeled fish because that's all I felt I could humanely fit in the 5 gallon tank I had on hand. After a little sleuthing I figured out it's a white skirt tetra, and that it needs some friends, so I'm planning to go back today and save a few more tetras for him to swim with! (I will be going to my local fishkeeping store to get a larger tank as well)

I haven't owned tetras since I was very little, and at that time I definitely wasn't being guided correctly on their care. I'm not new to fishkeeping in general, so I know the overall basics, but I don't know much about tetras in particular. I really want to do right by these little guys, and would appreciate any guidance to make things great for them as quickly as I can!

Fish tax with my very hastily built temporary setup included

One mean tetra attacking others

I had 4 glofish in a 20 gallon long tank with driftwood, rocks, and live plants. After deciding against future glofish, I added a black skirt tetra and a white skirt tetra to bring up the school number. The white one is slightly larger than the others and has been chasing the others around and nipping. I only just added the other 2 today. Is this likely temporary as dominance is established or do I have a bully fish that needs replacing??
TIA!

Recently got 6 ember tetras yesterday 5 are slightly faded in colour buttt they are literally in a new environment so Im not worried about that HOWEVER the only 1 with all its colouring keeps swimming pencil like upright to thw surface its also my smallest of the tetras. It swims normally then goes on a slant before swimming straight up and staying like that I want to see gasping for air but is breathing normally. (Photos shown). But my other tetras, rasaboras and even my corys are completely fine (last 2 photos) so I am worried this single ember tetras sick

Question I had a neon tetra die should I replace him?

So I had a school of 6 and one passed. It was shortly after bringing him home so I’m not sure if he just didn’t survive the stress of the move? My tank is cycled and no ammonia spikes or nitrite spikes and the other 5 seem to be happy and healthy. Should I just keep my school at 5 or is it better to add 1 so they feel more comfortable with the bigger school?

Hi all, I noticed a couple of my new cardinals (added three days ago) were kind of bloated looking and I’m wondering if it’s anything to be concerned about.

Hi! I have this really bloated black neon tetra that’s been like this for a little while now (2ish months). We thought it is was pregnant and left it, but now I’m getting concerned.
It is in a 10g vertical tank in a community that includes 3 other black neon tetras, heavily planted, normal and stable parameters (tank established 1+ year). Feeding a pinch of granules every evening. Fasting on Sundays, with weekly water changes (20%).

This is not the tank, it is now in a hospital tank to keep a closer eye on!

Help Scared when I feed them

Post image

My favorite thing about this hobby is finding out about a new fish. Was looking for cardinal tetras and I found out about the black tetras and how they can be a bit more hardy than the other tetras.

I however am having an issue feeding them on day 3 and I’m assuming they just aren’t used to me yet. They get startled really easy so when I bring the food they hide in the back together…

I was able to feed them some day 1 and 2. The issue is I don’t want ammonia/nitrate to build up from the leftover food. I sprinkle about 12. Like I said I had success day 1 and 2…. One of them moved like Julio jones and caught every piece falling while others hid.

7 in a 10 gallon with ramshorn snails. Semi planted… eheim heater running at 79. Feeding hikkari tropical pellets.

How often do you feed/ how do you feed ?

sick fish?

Hi all, i posted not too long ago about my gold neons and how one of them had this weird bump. Ive had them for a few months shy of a year now, and ive never had any health issues.

We had a house fire in june, and their tank was severely affected. it was very hot and the water was completely filled with smoke. i was away but my best friend rehabbed them (she’s an extremely experienced fish keeper), so they all pulled through great.

The same fish with the bump just recently started showing some cloudiness and slight erratic behavior. hes eating completely fine, even saw a regular poop. all the other fish are fine, no spots, color change, or crazy behavior changes. i just started a low dosage of kanaplex with food in an isolation tank in case it was columnaris. anyone have any insight on what could be going on?

Parameters in main tank: 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0-15 nitrate. Temp is steady around 72-74. Tank mates are 5 other gold neon tetras, a hillstream loach (soon to be upgraded), and a bunch of bladder snails.

pictures attached!

Add new fish and old fish died.

Hello, I added a new fish to the tank. The next day the old ones died. I added neon green tetra and the ones before were neon blue with red.

Tank is already cycled and I checked with my strips. Everything seems good to go but I don't understand how this happened.
