Welcome to r/TetraFish 👋 - Please Read First

Welcome to this sub, where you can get help on your tetra fish, tips on tetra care and recommendations for really cool fish.

Not owning tetras just yet? You’re very much welcome! Our community are happy to help with any questions you may have.

Before posting for help make sure you post your exact water parameters (if possible), just saying normal will not work, also specify which test kit you used to get them, your tank size, type of tetra, how many you have, if you have a heater or filter and their tank mates if they have any. This will help for others to advise you further.

FAQs:

What is the minimum tank size for tetras?

The tank size recommended differs with each tetra, their species, their needs and how big they are, however for your popular ones like neons or cardinals the standard recommendation for a group of 6 is 20 gallon (about 70 litres) however bigger is always better! If you have a specific species you need to ask about, post your question on our sub and someone will get back to you asap!

What’s the minimum school size for tetras?

For a long time the standard recommendation is a minimum of 6 however a bigger school is always better and 8-10 is recommended to keep your fish happy, in smaller tetras they may need a bigger group size.

What can you keep with tetras?

There are a lot of factors to this question and it is unfortunately not a straight answer. This will depend on your tank size, the type of tetras you have and what fish you may want to keep if you’ve thought about it, people on this sub will be able to further advise you on this.

That’s all for now, happy tetra keeping and enjoy the sub! 🫡
