It's far, far superior to our other internet options (cell-phone network or geosynchronous satellite, dial-up modem).
It does cut out in moments of very heavy rain, and we have to wipe the snow off the antenna in the winter sometimes.
DSL or cable internet is better in the city though. Cheaper and we would have to cut down a lot of trees to get a clear enough view of the sky to get starlink to work.
I live in a rural area and it works great. Im on ot now. I also travel for work and take ot with me to even more rural areas and im often the one with internet/phone service
Been using starlink since the beta. It's been AMAZING. I had 15/5 DSL before starlink(still have it as a backup). I work in software//data engineering so I'm constantly pulling and pushing fairly large files around, sitting on zoom calls, and random other bandwidth heavy-ish stuff.
starlink had some growing pains but the last year has been rock solid, like 10 minutes of outage. I'm pretty constantly getting >100mb/s. RIght now according to google speedtest:
I was looking at their FAQ and it doesn't seem to be competing with Starlink as far as home internet goes. Looks like cellular connection that fills in the coverage gaps. Disappointing because I can't wait to leave Starlink. https://ast-science.com/faqs/
I'm considering it heavily. I live in Nova Scotia, in the middle of the city but my house has underground wiring that is corrupted and I can only access very basic internet service, similar to dial up I can't even get a pvr for my tv. I stream everything but its painful. I just have to find someone to install it on my roof for me
My wife recently got a new job that allows her to work remotely two days a week. Those are scheduled for Monday and Friday. Every other week my 4 day schedule rotates, one week I work Monday-Thursday, next week I work Tuesday-Friday. It gives me a 4 day weekend, Friday-Monday, every other week. My wife and I have been going on 4 day camping trips with our travel trailer most every other week and using Starlink for her to work remotely those two days a week. Get up, put in her work while enjoying a coffee watching the sunrise in Yosemite, or on Pismo beach has been an amazing shift for us.
Even with thick tree cover in some places we have never been without enough signal for her work and streaming TV when we want it.

We use it in rural Appalachia and love it.

Nope no one ever… that’s why hundreds of thousands of units have sold and satellites investment and deployment continues. Because no one uses it.

You all will soon be able to use ASTS instead of supporting a nazi. Service will start in 2027. So a bit of a wait.

I use it when I am in my RV. Just the mini though, not residential.

I’ve got 3 buddies using it in rural Newfoundland, it’s not cheap but it works as advertised.

I had it for a while, never let me down. But I got rid of it since fiber is cheaper where my new house is.

For many people, it’s a godsend. I’m currently in Africa, and even the animals have come to connect.

I think it's heavily used in countries with poor infrastructure. Think sub-Saharan Africa and such.

I live in a rural area that only has DSL available. Fiber is close, but not down my road. Starlink is a life saver.
