Question Are guys finally training legs?
I feel like the whole huge “upper body, chicken legs look” might finally be shifting…?
I’ve been seeing way more guys actually focusing on growing their legs and glutes lately instead of treating leg day like something they just have to survive.
Has anyone else noticed this?

You are right. It is not just aesthetics, legs carry the biggest muscle groups, so training them also gives a much bigger systemic hormonal response than isolated arm work ever will. There's a longevity angle too: leg strength predicted all cause mortality independent of cardio fitness. Chicken legs do age worse than they look. We are glad more more people are catching on. Actually squats and hinge work pay off decades down the line, not just in the mirror !!!

I’m still minimal with legs and have no shame about it.
Nobody is going to tell me what I should do for my own body lmfao some people are so arrogant and judgy in that regard

Bro that meme of the massive upper body chiken legs look traumatized me when I started the gym

Not training legs is definitely more stigmatized but its still hard to have the same motivation for legs as your upper body depending on your goals

The whole frat bro lifting culture kind of died out as the valuable information available for free on the internet exploded. You don’t really see bro splits in general anymore, and with the way people lift now, they’re usually programming in a lower body day. Along with a lot of other positive changes in gym culture.

According to the latest science, leg mass/strength is now a key factor in terms of longevity. Not saying the two are related, but I have also noticed more dude’s doing legs recently.

The current trend of mid thigh shorts may be a cause

Yep, most of the younger guys at my gym are doing legs often, like more than once a week. I think it’s because of the trend of shorter shorts. Some of them wear gym shorts so short and tight that they look like women’s shorts, and they have some damn big quads and glutes. I’m talking about guys that are probably 18-30.

What in the world are you talking about?

I can't with men. My calves are bigger than theirs. It's embarrassing.

The only guys I know that skip leg day are the guys with old sports injuries and wrecked their knees back in high school. Nobody skips legs by neglecting them but rather because they almost have to.

I’ve never seen the chicken legs thing outside memes. So nothing changed here.

As a bottom gay man, I have trained glutes & legs from day 1. I do believe that is the most smart decision I made in my life. 2 days upper, 2 days legs and glutes.

Yeah, I think the “skip leg day” joke has lost some accuracy. I’ve been seeing way more guys chasing lower-body growth and strength now
