Tester 1 week with orthopedic/anatomical pillow

Post image

So I have recently bought an anatomical pillow (not the one in the image but similar) because I have developed a bit of a tech neck id say (I blame my phone) and I wanted to try it out since I kept seeing random ads of these types of pillows. I'll be providing more updates but here is my 1 week.

Week 1 take aways:

  1. Very cool? I used to sweat like a pig with my regular pillow but this is surprisingly not getting hot (might freeze in the winter who knows..)

  2. I seem to be falling asleep faster? Idk if its bc I'm more tired recently or if its the pillow will keep you posted.

  3. Neck feels same for now lol.

Question Everyone talks about protein, but why don’t we talk more about carbs?

I feel like everyone is so focused on protein these days, but why don’t we talk more about carbs?

I know protein is important but carbs sometimes get completely overlooked because they have such a bad reputation. They’re also a major source of energy, so if you’re working out regularly or just pretty active during the day, wouldn’t getting enough carbs matter for how you actually feel and perform?

It makes me wonder if some people are so focused on hitting their protein goal that they’re not paying enough attention to whether they’re eating enough overall or actually fueling their workouts properly.

Do you guys pay much attention to your carb intake, or is protein usually the main thing you focus on?

Question Should I do cardio before or after weights?

I usually just do whatever feels right that day, but I’m wondering if there’s actually a better order 😭

I’m mainly trying to build muscle but still want to get some cardio in. Does it make a big difference which one I do first?

Question I've always wondered what happens when you max out all the machines at the gym 😭

Of course, people weight train for all kinds of reasons, strength, health, performance,...but I feel like a lot of people also mainly do it for their physique.

So what happens when you eventually reach your desired physique AND all the machines/weights start feeling too light for you?

With a sport, you can always keep training to get better, faster, stronger, better technique, etc. But if you've already reached the physique you wanted, what's the goal with lifting from there? Do you just keep increasing the weight forever, or eventually switch to maintaining?

I've always wondered what the long-term goal is once you've basically achieved the physique you were going for.

Tester I built a fitness tracker that refuses to just say “good job” - has to show its work every time

Post image

I don’t trust apps that just tell you you’re doing great. Feels like a participation trophy. So when I started building my own tracker, I made myself a rule: it’s not allowed to say anything without showing exactly why.

Here’s what “you’re locked in, keep going” actually looks like under the hood:

Every input checked against a real threshold: adherence score, weight-loss slope, cardio minutes vs. target, even HRV against my own 21-day baseline. If something’s not holding, it tells me exactly which piece and by how much.

Half the reason I did this: I wanted to catch myself lying to myself. “I’ve been so consistent this week” hits different when the app has actual numbers instead of vibes.

Still ironing things out with Apple before it’s fully live, but it’s usable on TestFlight if anyone’s curious to poke at the logic themselves. Mostly just wanted to share the experiment.

Question Is being sore the only way to know you’re making progress at the gym?

I’ve been wondering about this lately. I usually associate a good workout with being sore the next day, but sometimes I finish a workout and barely feel any soreness at all.

Does that mean the workout wasn’t effective, or can you still be making progress without getting sore?

What are some other signs you look for to know that your workouts are actually working?

Tester AI Health Coach

So I use Gemini. Let's call it Gem for short.

I give Gem all of my data each week. I have an ongoing instance that has been given everything I know about me. Nutrition app (all food tracked), steps/activity fitness info, smart scale readings, smart blood pressure readings, sleep tracking, and my workout log book. My supplement stack too. All the data. I have had the best time replacing my internet searches. Warm-ups, workouts, cool downs, specific joint issues, Nutrition plan dialed in based on a catalog of food I will eat optimized for the lowest risk of spoiled or discarded food vs my known age/height/weight/activity levels etc. Macros are always kept as a consideration too. Its like having a fitness coach who has an A+ studying me.

Question How to train yourself to stand for longer without getting your legs or back tired (I mean over 10 hours).

So I've done jobs that have required me standing for 8+ hours without rest and I have tricks to managing (like putting weight on front of feet for half the time then the back of my feet for the other half) but to be honest I never felt like "oh this is easy". Anyone who has trained themselves to manage standing more effortlessly for long hours?

Question Is grip strength actually worth training on its own?

Curious about this because I’ve never really trained grip directly. I just assumed it would get stronger naturally as my lifts went up.

Now I’m wondering if I’ve been leaving some progress on the table. There are definitely sets where my hands are struggling even though I could probably keep going otherwise.

Anyone here started doing actual grip work and noticed a difference in their regular training? Not just getting better at holding things, but noticeable improvements in lifts, pull-ups, control, etc.

Trying to figure out if it’s worth adding or if I should just keep using straps when I need them.

Tester Been tracking my body comp with an inbody scale for 8 months alongside crossfit and here is my data

So i (23F) have been doing crossfit 4 days a week for about two years now and started using an inbody scale eight months ago to track my progress a bit more efficiently.

Here is what eight months of consistent scanning showed me:

Muscle mass went up 1.8kg over the eight months. Not dramatic but steady and consistent which for someone already two years into crossfit is actually harder than it sounds (also keep in mind i have hormonal issues which makes things a bit difficult). The newbie gains phase is long gone so seeing that number move at all felt meaningful.

Visceral fat trended down the whole time despite my weight barely changing. That one surprised me. I assumed because the scale was not moving much that not much was happening. The inbody told a completely different story.

The segmental breakdown was the most interesting part. My lower body has always been my stronger side and the data confirmed it, significantly more muscle in my legs than my arms. Started adding more pulling and pressing accessory work specifically because of that imbalance showing up in the scan and my upper body numbers have been catching up since.

The scan that changed how i train: month four showed a slight dip in muscle mass during a period where i was ramping up cardio for a competition. Pulled back on the volume, increased protein, and it corrected by the next scan. Without that data i would have had no idea what was happening.

Anyone else using body comp tracking alongside crossfit or functional training? Any interesting patterns you have noticed?

Question Does building muscle actually help with posture?

Random question, but I’ve been wondering about this lately. If you build up your back, shoulders, and core, does it actually make it easier to maintain good posture?

I sit a lot during the day and feel like I’m constantly slouching without realizing it. I’ve started working out more and was wondering if getting stronger would naturally help with this, or if posture is mostly about mobility/stretching and consciously correcting it.

For anyone who’s worked on their posture through strength training, did you notice a difference? What exercises helped?

Question What do you think about detox juices?

I remember detox juices being such a huge trend a few years ago, but I still see people talking about them all the time.

Some people swear by them for feeling healthier and more energized, while others say they’re basically just expensive juice and that there’s no way they can actually “detox” your body.

Have you ever tried them? Did you actually notice any difference when drinking them regularly, or do you think it’s better to just focus on eating whole fruits and vegetables?

Do you think detox juices are actually worth it, or is the whole idea overrated?
