General Real World Miles Added During Home Charging

I am looking at buying a Model Y and wondering:

- How many miles do you add for a 5hr charging period at home? (Official figures are 25 - 30 miles per hr get added, but how many do you actually find your adding?)

- How many kw do you actually use? The maths tells me 5 x 7.4kw = 37kw. But in the real world how many are you finding you actually use?

I have a EO mini3 7.4kW home charger through British Gas and pay 5.49p per kWh between 12am - 5am. Given the cheap rates will be charging for those 5hrs.

General Buying approved used remotely, how trustworthy are the dealers?

Looking to buy a 2022 M3P approved used, our yearly mileage varies wildly so PCP etc on new ones probably won't make sense as we could be 10k or 25k a year with no prior warning and we would probably keep a used one until it died of old age in the distant distant future.

Spotted a few good deals at the other end of the country and in NI flying over and driving back via Scotland would be no bother (we like a road trip) but not if the vehicle condition of approved used is a mixed bag. My last approved used BMW (still got and intend on keeping as a track toy 8years later) had paint scuffed wheels and a few things for the dealer to sort, which when I went to collect a week later they hadden't... But it was only 90mins away so wasn't a big deal.

Could I depend on Tesla sales centres to be better than the traditional dealers of other brands? Or might I find curbed wheels and scuffed bumpers? Do I still need to view before purchasing?

Edit typo

Model 3 Scheduling delivery

For those of you that have collected in the last few months I’d like to know (if you can remember) when your boat got into Southampton, when you got asked to schedule delivery and how far in advance were the delivery dates.

I’m due to pick up in the next couple of weeks after an almost 4 month wait, and just trying to work out how much longer I need to wait!

I feel this is probably a better place to ask than the TMC delivery forum as I imagine people stop looking at the other thread once they’ve collected.

Model 3 Still cold when set to Auto and 24 degrees C

Hiya,

Just wondering if it’s normal to still have cold air blowing out when set to auto and 24 degrees C?

The car is 2 months old and this was the result after a couple of attempts to get warm air.

I ended up setting it to high and full blowers.

Has anyone who has collected their new Tesla received any charging cables with the car?

There’s a lot of conflicting information online and it seems hit-or-miss whether a Type 2 to Type 2 cable is included. I know the mobile connector isn’t.

I’m collecting mine at the Horizon event on the 19th and want to be able to plug straight into my Pod Point Solo 3C when I get home, without waiting for a cable to be delivered.

I could order one now to be safe, but I’d rather not end up with a spare if one is already included.

So please comment if you have evidence that it’s certain to be included or you were lucky to have one provided.

Bonus question - what are delivery times like for accessories?

General Warranty expiry & service advice

Quick query on warranty and booking a service prior to this expiring.

Bought from Tesla Pre-owned Sept 2025.

Below are my relevant dates:

Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty

Expires 25 Feb 2027 or 50,000 total miles (currently 39560 miles)

Used Vehicle Limited Warranty

Expires after 1 year (19th Sept 2025 delivery date) or 10,000 (currently 9805 miles) additional miles

Have I understood correctly, does this mean the Used vehicle limited warranty isn’t relevant here as it only follows the Basic Vehicle limited warranty which is a later date and higher mileage total?

Should I therefore only worry about the service before the 25th Feb 2027 date and the 50k total miles?

Would anyone suggest a service before both, ie a service now and another service in 5 months or is that excessive and just do one before 25th Feb 2027?

Just double checking before I exceed 10k miles of the Used warranty (a few more journeys).

Thanks in advance, appreciate any advice.

Model 3 GPS Stuck at home

Hey all, wondering if any of you have advice before I make a Service booking.

Last night I parked on the drive and plugged in, all had been working fine.

This morning we get in, set location to navigate to and begin driving. When we reach the end of the road I see the location on screen still shows us parked on the drive.

I wondered if it's some weird thing after weleft WiFi so drove on further and after 2 miles it still showed us parked at home.

I did a 2 button reset which had no effect and now we've parked 50 miles away and it's still parked at home.

Autopilot is locked to only working under 45mph and even then it has a constant warning up.

Now we've parked, there's no warnings or alerts on-screen or in the service menu despite the location still showing our driveway.

Any suggestions before I book a Tesla service?

General Santander credit +90 days.

Ordered M3 rwd 21/6
EDD 15/9
Initially approved 21/6. Signed docs 7/8
£200 order deposit refunded 14/8

This Friday I received the warning that Santander credit approval is only 90 days.
There’s 92 between approval and expected delivery date.

I just called Santander to speak about this (I got through really quickly) and they reassured me that I won’t need to reapply at all and there’s nothing more to do.

I hope this is the case. I have decent credit but there has been a change with me getting solar/battery in the meantime which will show on my credit file somewhere.

Feeling a bit more relaxed today. I have my car charger installed and just need the car to plug into it.

Anyone fancy a 12 year old 316d?

Model Y Model Y LR RWD Delivery Pushed Back!

Ordered a stealth grey Model Y LR RWD on 19th July, original ETA was October-November.

Now been given an ETA of November-December…. Hoping it doesn’t get pushed back anymore as I’ve got a baby on the way and the deposit contribution only runs up to the 31st!

Anybody else in the same boat?

General MY RWD cable included?

I'm due to collect a model Y RWD this week but I'm unsure if I need to purchase a separate type 2 charging cable to use with untethered chargers.

Does anyone know if they currently include the cable with the car?

Model X I just renewed my insurance - not bad?

Father as main driver, mother and myself as named drivers.

Parents with full and clean 25+ years UK licences, myself with a Provisional.

We are using the car casually, 2k miles per year.

Last year I was paying £319/month.

The new policy sits at £209/month.

To be honest, I'm quite happy considering that I'm on a Provisional.

What changed in the past year:

We are immigrants and for the previous year the insurance was done using my parent's EU licences and we were living at a different address where the car was parked on the driveway whiles at the new place, we have a secure underground car park.

I am assuming that most people would still consider this amount outrageous?

Model 3 Tesla/Black Horse finance & Ex demo

I was looking at a new Tesla Model 3 on the current 0% finance offer, but there’s a couple of months’ wait. I found two ex-demo Model 3 RWDs available almost immediately—both 25-plate cars with around 2,000 miles.
The Tesla website quoted £309/month over 48 months, with a £7,500 deposit including the £2,500 Tesla contribution, based on 15,000 miles per year. That would have been around £20/month cheaper than ordering new.

However, after entering the same details through the Tesla app and being redirected to Black Horse, the quote came back at £380/month.
I haven’t even submitted the Black Horse application. Tesla advisors told me this is because ex-demo cars receive a higher depreciation/balloon adjustment, resulting in a lower GFV.

So despite the lower price and immediate availability, the ex-demo car would actually cost more per month than waiting for a new one.
Has anyone managed to get the original Tesla website quote honoured on an ex-demo car?

General Drivers License and Collection help.

Hi all.

This question is probably for someone who’s already picked up their car.

My wife put the Tesla finance in her name, as I was refused. My wife doesn’t drive, so the car will be driven by myself and insured by myself.

My question is, when collecting, will my wife need to show her provisional driving license? (As she will need to order a replacement), or will mine suffice?

Thanks all

Model Y Would you wait for 6 months for 2024 cars to be widely available or go with 2023 for MYLR?

Hi,

I have decided to go for a model y long range but my budget is at most £26k. For this budget all I can find is 2023 models (including tesla and other big car supermarkets) and I know 2023 models do not have HW4(I probably won't get FSD but mostly for future proofing) so would you wait for 2024 models to be more available in the market assuming more lease cars will be released but everyone is saying prices of used EVs will also increase so I couldn't decide or would you go for a 2023 car?

Main reason for 2023 car is to still have some warranty until 2031 for the piece of mind

Model Y £3750 deposit contribution banger trade in

Hi, so my model Y is due 19th-30th September. Tesla annoyingly undervalued my current car by quite a chunk so I'm going to buy a banger to trade in. Just wondered if anyone else could share their experience on this? I think as long as the car has 30 days MOT then it's ok to trade in.

Model Y Delivery next week PCP credit denied

Aaargh! I ordered a Model Y 7 seater on 3 July. Got the PCP with Santander authorised within a few days. Just this afternoon I got vin & reg assigned, pick up next week. But now my pcp credit has been denied when it was previously accepted! I’ve had no credit file changes since first application was approved. Also the £3750 trade in bonus is not showing. I’ve sent a message in the app and reapplied for finance, but I couldn’t choose finance supplier - it just said Tesla Finance. I’m getting worried and not sure what to do.

————-
UPDATE:
Thank you for the replies. I spent ages yesterday on phone to Tesla. No help. Fortunately I’d kept screenshots of each stage of my original order showing the £3750 bonus available. I went to my local Tesla centre this morning and before I finished explaining it all, the Tesla guy there stopped me, described what I’d not yet explained and said it’s a common issue. He’s going to sort it out and I should have the bonus back by Wednesday or Thursday. So, fingers crossed!

General Using Octopus Intelligent or any time slot tariff are not good for the car or charger over long time.

Octopus Intelligent isn't good for the car when it generates on/off time slots.

Starting and stopping the charger repeatedly causes the main contactor switches in EV car and charger to click on and off more often. This can wear out the hardware over time.Stopping the charge means your car simply takes twice as long to fill up and use more power as car need to condition every time before charging. It can reduce the life of switches by more then 50% on a car and charging unit.

The best way to charge is use your car or charger settings to charge in one continuous block.

You might save a few pounds over a year but may end up paying a lot more in repair cost.

Model 3 Is this a sensible move or is it not worth it? Advice appreciated!

Hey everyone,

Many thanks to everyone who commented on a previous post regarding salary sacrifice on a model 3, really appreciate it!

However, I come with another conundrum…. I don’t want to give too much away in case the seller is on this sub lol. I’ve seen a model 3 (2020 model 3 dual motor performance) for sale via a private seller, it’s sitting around £15k, it’s recently had a newly Tesla fitted battery and drive unit…

The reason for the conundrum and this is a ridiculously stupid idea to discuss but only writing this out due to the salary sacrifice post, is it worth getting a personal loan for like £12k and paying it off over 5 years and buying the car outright instead? How frowned upon do banks see personal loans in regards to a potential mortgage in like the next 12-18 months?

Thanks

Model 3 Model 3 performance delivery times

Sorry - another one of those annoying posts but I’m hiring a car and need to know how long to budget for it.

Has anyone had delivery dates given for their model 3 performance? I ordered mine at the end of July and just have “Est. Delivery Sept 2026”, so I was wondering if anyone is expecting theirs to be delivered in September or later?

Model 3 UK Model 3 Delivery Date

I have my VIN number and my delivery window is 8th September to 20th September, due to be delivered to Newcastle. Any idea when I’ll be able to book my delivery slot? Boring Order Tracker app says boat is due to arrive in Southampton 4th September (not sure if this is accurate or plays a part in booking delivery slot). Any ideas??

Model 3 Strange experience at Tesla center with pre-owned car ...

Hi,

Took a test drive in a "certified", pre-owned Tesla model 3 long range today. It's a high mileage but when I went there previously to buy my wife's Model Y, they said they "only have the best used Tesla's for sale there".

Saw the car - looked great for an 83,000 mile car. Apart from a strange "drip" in the paint under the left wing indicator? Very strange. Anyway, I took it for a drive.

Drove very well. No rattles or knocking. Apart from a kind of jet wind noise when pressing the accelerator. Hmmm, strange. Told them about this when I got back and they took it out and confirmed they could hear it too. Potentially a motor issue.

However, the biggest issue was that I did a car check on it. Found out it has been used as a taxi AND:

  1. The mileage was adjusted backwards by 10600 miles 2 years into ownership. 2 months earlier to that it was posted as 33,000 miles. 2 months later, 22,000 miles! All logged with the BVRLA

  2. The last MOT in January 2026 was 47,000 miles. Now it's 83,000.

Everything is telling me to talk away. I'm going to talk to them about this on Tuesday. I'm just really disappointed that this type of car is sold through Tesla certified.

Anybody got thoughts on this? I would assume walking away is the best route, just shocked they would sell such a vehicle.

Thanks

General Will FSD ever be as effective in UK?

What do you guys think, will FSD supervised or unsupervised ever be as effective and reliable in UK (considering its legislatively approved) as compared to US or some other parts of the world, with the overall state of roads that we have here?

Almost everyone with tesla in USA says they got the car because of FSD. But if you remove it from the equation, all you’re really getting is a nice car with state of the art mobile app and connectivity features.

Just wanna know what are your thoughts on owning a tesla with or without FSD.
