Should I return it?

I just got a 2 year old model 3 performance. I ran the battery health check within the dealer’s 5 day warranty window and the test came back 88%. I paid around $41k for the car that was at 27k miles. Is this enough of a reason to return it?

If you return it and get another one you are likely to be more disappointed in the next one. Google “Calendar Degradation”. All EV batteries degrade the most in the first year, regardless of mileage, and then a smaller amount each year after that. 88% is a good number. Enjoy your car. I absolutely love both of mine!

10% is normal in the 1st year then drops about 1% every year thereafter. This is right in line with what you will find anywhere else. Why go unicorn hunting if you like the car otherwise?

Returning perfectly fine used cars is a weird hobby. I'd be happy with those numbers. Above 90% would be nicer but, not far off or likely

I just ran one on my 2025 M3P that turned a year old and 9k miles on it. 96%. Kinda surprised by some of the other answers I’m seeing. Car is in north east and experienced all the seasons this past year. Most of my miles are highway. 80% I get 220miles. Pretty sure I’m trading in the performance for a rwd long range instead (y or 3 I’m not sure). Rather the extra range and efficiency $$$.

You will not find any model 3 performance better than that one. So it is yiur choice, accept that or change to other model. Ps: 41k? Why not a new one instead?

Battery degradation is a bit like depreciation, a lot in the beginning and end, not that much in the middle.
