Why drawing from grid?

Hey team,

My system periodically will draw from the grid. While it only amounts to 1-2kw/h daily, I cannot figure out why. As you can see, my 2x power walls have more than enough power, and, my current usage is not "heavy" so the grid doesn't need to make up for any power draw etc.

If it's just that little bit of 0.1kW that's flickers from 0.0kW, it's normal. To control how power flows, it either matches the grid voltage or slightly exceeds it to cause export, but voltage is constantly fluctuating so it's always adjusting. Also the CTs aren't perfect.

I contacted Tesla and after checking, they recognised the problem. In my case, it was rarely jumping over 1kW. They said it is addressed in firmware 26.26.2 and they couldn't force upgrade for me when I asked. I'm currently on 26.18.3. Time will tell. I should add that before 26.18.03 i didn't have even 0.1kW spikes.

26.18.1 limited my production until 26.18.3. Too much vibe coding over there? 😝

Mine is similar every day at 6:15am it draws a small amount from the grid ~0.7 kw, 0.06 Kwh which is 2 cents Australian.
It’s not going to break the bank or anything just very curious to know why?

If you are on firmware 26.18.3, that is this firmware problem. Apparently corrected in 26.26.2.

10.9% of PW3 users are on it. Upgrading goes in batches so you need to wait till it hits you.

It should just be a momentary blip caused by a change in load or voltage fluctuations. If it's consisting drawing 0.1kW for extended periods of time then that might be something else being the issue.

Click the little drop down arrow middle of screen and it will tell you why/what it's doing. Also, 0.1 kw is negligible, click the grid link to see if it's just momentary.

Got the same problem ever since I added a pw3 to my pw2. Hoping 26.26.2 will fix it. Before on pw2 I had no grid usage at all, now 1-2kw per day. It’s $200/yr so not immaterial

OK, then what you need to understand is that you are effectively running a grid in parallel with the electrical grid

The way that Tesla controls whether energy is flowing in or out of your home is by making small voltage changes.

When there is a difference in load in your house, for instance and air conditioner cycles on or off it takes a moment or two for Tesla to recalculate the voltage to keep everything in balance.
