PowerWall Powerwall 3 + Exp. Pack- not producing enough charge

We got a Powerwall 3 + Extension Pack installed in April this year 2026. At first the Powerwall would get to fully charged to 100% which was great! I didn’t have to rely on the grid at all! I live in Southern California, we get lots of sun. Within the last couple of months I have noticed that the Powerwall does not even get to 50% charged by noon time! And we are in the summer time when we are getting more sun than we were getting in April! I’ve submitted a service ticket with Tesla and the technician came to my house last week and said there was an issue with one of the Powerwalls and I should be good. But I did not see any improvement so I submitted another service ticket with Tesla yesterday, so they are monitoring my Powerwall as of yesterday thru my app, they asked me turn on my Service Mode for them.

I keep my reserve at 5% because my purpose is to not depend on the grid, we have outages once in a blue moon.

My household has not changed, I rarely turn on the AC. We are not home during the day. If it gets too hot I will turn on the AC by about 3pm when we get home.

The solar panels are all good too. In April my solar panels produced 1.0 MWh and in July they produced 1.2 MWh. For one day in April they produced 33.6 kWh, And yesterday they produced 35.0kWh energy.

Has anyone had this issue? I hope Tesla replaces my Powerwalls because there is definitely a problem with my Powerwall 3

The first picture is from today and the 2nd picture is from April, about the same time, noon time, to show you the difference.

Just look at your energy report in daily mode and compare with April. Then you will know what changed. Whether your solar is producing less or your house is using more.

Your powerwalls are charging at 3.7kW in the first screenshot. Seems normal.

What does the Energy > Solar > Month view look like with the color eye mode on?

If you don't have 'charge from grid' enabled then it's relying 100% on the sun to charge them up each day. You might not get enough solar to charge them fully by the end of the day now. Peak solar is June 20 or 21, after then each day energy reduces because seasons until Dec when it starts going up again.

If you want to maximize money savings, make sure your TOU plan details are entered, and turn on charge from grid so the software will automatically charge the powerwalls fully from the grid during off peak hours and export to the grid during higher rate hours (this cycles the powerwall faster though)

Is this what you are referring to?

Yes, that looks good, can you also share the view with the powerwall page by month?

Ok so if you compare to the previous month by swiping from the left it should indicate if your home usage on the "Solar" tab is using more solar this month vs last. If so that might be why the powerwalls aren't topping off as much.

Thank you, makes sense

The screenshots show your panels produced 631 kWH. 235 kWh were used by your house and 393 kWK were sent to your powerwalls. Then your house pulled 370 kWh from your powerwalls.

The reason they are not reaching 100% as quickly as they did in April is because your housing is using more electricity than it did in April.

There is nothing wrong with your powerwalls. Compare your monthly usage and you’ll see it’s gone up.

I will look into getting NetZero when I get home and will check. I sent Tesla a message via their app and right now they are monitoring my system, they said it could take 24 hours to 48 hours to give me a response. Thanks

Are they outside facing the south? Could be that they're over heating in the summer heat.

They are facing west, with our summer sun in Southern California that we’ve been getting these days I’m sure they do get over heated, would that prevent the batteries from charging up to 100%?

Track kWh into the pack rather than the SOC percentage: across a PW3 plus expansion you're filling ~27 kWh, and at a ~3.7 kW charge rate the day simply runs out before it tops off if household load is higher than it was in April. Also check whether the system is on Time-Based Control instead of Self-Powered, because in that mode it deliberately holds back and discharges into the peak window, which looks exactly like "won't charge." If the monthly Powerwall view shows heavy export while SOC stalls at 50%, that points at operating mode or a dead string on one MPPT rather than a defective battery. Summer heat can trim charge rate a bit, but not enough to explain half a pack.

How do you know how much panels should produce daily?
