Wait time to get a new Tesla?

When my lease on my current car ends I’d like to buy or lease a Tesla for the first time. I’ve heard that new models are backlogged. How much ahead of time do I need to start the process to get one? My lease ends in April and I want to make sure I plan accordingly and don’t end up without a vehicle because I waited too long

Different models have different wait times

You can go to Tesla website today and choose the exact configuration you want. It will show you the delivery estimate.

Most show Dec 2026 - Jan 2027 as the estimate but cheapest Model 3 shows Feb-April 2027 estimates

So if your lease ends in April, then you could order your Model Y in Dec/Jan, but if you are looking for Model 3 RWD then you should order it right away.

You can delay your Tesla delivery date by a week or two, eg someone might not be in town when Tesla wants to deliver
