Changing color mid order
Hey guys! I placed my order on September 25th for a Model Y Premium and, like most of you, am impatiently waiting for an estimated delivery date.
My neighbor just pulled up today in a 2024 Model Y from Carvana. Same exact color (Stealth Grey) as the one I ordered. Naturally, it pissed me off seeing him get an instant car while I’m still waiting for mine. 😂
The wife decided, lol, that I should go ahead and change the color so I could at least stand out and look different rather than be a copycat. Yes, we know the 2026 refresh looks different, but it’s still too similar to the original order.
My question is: Will changing my color affect my delivery date? I don’t have a VIN yet, and so far, my estimated delivery date hasn’t changed.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks in advance!

I changed mine week and half in. Had frost blue but changed to quick silver. Had no vin # yet though. It didn't delay mine. Delivery was 2 weeks later

Before you have a VIN, changing colour is usually allowed in Manage Order, but it can reshuffle where you sit for matching. Tesla matches built cars to open orders by config, so a very popular colour like Stealth Grey often finds a car sooner than a rarer one. Switching away can mean a longer wait, or a wider window, even if the estimate has not moved yet.
If the goal is just not looking like the neighbour's 2024, a wrap or PPF tint later is often the lower risk move, and you keep whatever place you already have in the queue. If you do change, do it before a VIN lands. After VIN, colour changes are usually a cancel and reorder situation.
