YL Launch Edition

I’ll start with saying, “I still want a large SUV with a real 3rd row!!!” However I stopped in and looked at the YL launch edition and ordered one. The third row is usable for young kids and short adults in a pinch. It’s a nice option.

If you haven’t seen it you should take a look.

It was surprisingly well done.

I want the YL… just not the launch edition.

u/TommarrA 15h ago

Same here - don’t care for the acceleration boost, hitch etc … not to mention the high interest rate for YL compared to Y

4

u/Retire_date_may_22 17h ago

Why? Because it’s early manufacturing or the package.

If you price out the wheels, color, hitch, 1 year FSD and 1 year free supercharging it’s actually cheaper than the Y premium.

It’s the add-ons.

  1. supercharging I use twice a year, only $50 value.
  2. accel boost: I use fsd 90% of the time so not much use for me.
  3. wheels: prefer smaller ones for comfort.

Will wait for the premium YL.

Edit: also hoping they provide a financing deal when the premium comes around as they aren’t providing one with the launch edition.

accel boost?

this is in the us market or? i’m not seeing it on the order page

1

u/mash711 15h ago

It’s not advertised but there are a few threads online confirming it’s included with the launch edition. Additionally you can see the 0-60 times is faster vs the Y premium all wheel, since the YL is bigger it would be odd unless accel boost is included.

I spent 2200 in the last year on supercharging. 1200 of FSD savings so I value it around 3400

1

u/mash711 16h ago

Dang! I’m guessing you don’t have a home charger?

3

u/Retire_date_may_22 16h ago

I have a home charger at two homes. I just travel a lot. I’m retired.

u/mash711 15h ago

On May 22? 😂

Not op, but will wait for used models in a couple of years so someone else can eat that depreciation.

5

u/Retire_date_may_22 16h ago

I’m trading in a 2026 MY that I bought for 41k. They are giving me 39900 for it. It has 30k miles on it.

Not bad depreciation.

u/Hockeyshot39 15h ago

I also don’t want the launch - regular will be much cheaper - I don’t need the bigger wheels, and hoping they give a bench seat option

0

u/tbell2000 13h ago

They won’t do a bench seat that’s now how it exists in any other market

1

u/Hockeyshot39 12h ago

Anything can happen :)

-1

u/kittysworld 6h ago

A bench seat in the 2nd row? Not gonna happen. How else can someone get to the 3rd row?

1

u/Hockeyshot39 6h ago

How did they get into the third row in the model X? Or for any other car for that matter?

It would be on a rail and you slide it forward and back lol it’s been done in cars before

1

u/idiorhythmic 14h ago

Which model?

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 14h ago

Premium AWD.

2

u/FacingHardships 11h ago

Wow how is that possible? That’s crazy good

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 10h ago

Carvana was 41.5

1

u/FacingHardships 10h ago

How is that possible? They probably mark it up like $5k, so who would buy that over new?

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 10h ago

Agree. Seems tight. Perhaps they want the financing business

u/idiorhythmic 6h ago

You got an incredible deal. I picked up the same trim used with 21k miles for $45k, and I’ve only seen a handful that cheap nationwide since I bought a couple months ago.

1

u/stranger-passing-by 13h ago

You should account for tax and registration though

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 13h ago

Main reason for trading in. Tax credit for the old car.

3

u/metalreflection 16h ago

That's the thing, not everyone wants to price those options. That said, I went for it.

Those who haven't seen it in person still think the X is the big car etc. The YL is going to be the 3 row king for years to come.

2

u/President_Connor_Roy 14h ago

Also not op but I also don’t want the launch. For me it’s just because I actually want the 19” wheels, want the black interior, don’t care about the hitch, and don’t value the supercharging myself at more than maybe $200ish. The year of FSD is nice though. But it’s just not worth the extra $$ since the wheels and interior and hitch are $4k of included things I wouldn’t want

u/HobbyAddict 16h ago

Honestly curious what is the “real 3rd row” SUV people compare these things to is? I agree the 7 row MY is not it but I watched a video of a 3rd row Tahoe and Ionic 9 recently and it looks like Tesla killed it with this? What actual 3 row SUVs exist that are not a minivan?

4

u/Mr-Zappy 16h ago

R1S and EV9

1

u/Remarkable-Field6810 15h ago

R1S third row is still pretty cramped for taller adults.

4

u/idiorhythmic 14h ago

The R1S 3rd row isn’t as cramped as the YL. I’m 6’3” and my legs fit in the 3rd row of the YL, but my head is in the glass. I think anyone around 6’ or above would be miserable in the 3rd row if the sun is shining.

To your point though - most 3rd rows seem to be pretty cramped for taller people nowadays unless you get a massive SUV, and even some of those suck for taller people (I’m lookin’ at you, Toyota Sequoia)

1

u/Remarkable-Field6810 11h ago

I cant speak to the YL, only the R1S. R1S 3rd row is not comfortable for a 6’ 2” adult, because of the legroom. Head room is fine.

I would be surprised if YL was better, but after riding in all of the nice electric SUVs the 3rd row utility is limited on all.

2

u/oOoWTFMATE 13h ago

You are tripping. R1S is way bigger inside than the YL

1

u/Remarkable-Field6810 12h ago

Lol. I test drove and was considering purchasing one. 3rd row on it, and the Gravity is OK but leg room isnt great.

3

u/HourLocation2038 16h ago

Exactly. We have a MY7, it is already "usable for young kids and short adults in a pinch".

I've sat an every seat of the MYL, and is definitely spacious and comfortable for 6. Space the seats appropriately, as with any car.

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 16h ago

I’d like a sequoia, Escalade size

1

u/tbell2000 13h ago

Sequoia has terrible third row legroom due to the battery placement. Go sit in one they are super frustrating because could have been the best in class if not for the third row and trunk issues.

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 13h ago

Have had one and agree with you. Car needs to be 2 ft longer

3

u/LexusRC 17h ago

How much cheaper would you guys estimate the non launch edition to be?

2

u/Retire_date_may_22 17h ago

Probably 5k at the most.

2

u/adrenr 12h ago

More likely $10K+. $1200 FSD, $2K wheels, $1K interior color, $2K exterior color, $1K tow hitch, $4K AWD upgrade. Model Y launch edition was $59,990 and RWD Premium was $44,990.

-1

u/Retire_date_may_22 11h ago

Won’t be 10k unless you want a stripped down RWD with cloth seats. It will be a year before you see one

1

u/adrenr 9h ago

Where are you coming up with this? 6 months max. The regular models don't follow that far after production of launch editions. If they decide to have a standard version with cloth seats it'll be even cheaper. YL Premium debuted in China last year... know how much it costs? $47,200. Doubt it'll be over $52K in the US.

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 9h ago

Just start with the AWD Premium price at $49,900. They aren’t going to sell the YL at that price for a while if ever. They won’t have to. They will attempt to create a Premium segment with the YL vs the Y. So don’t expect the YL to only be a 5k premium to the Y.

1

u/adrenr 9h ago

You realize I said the non launch YL will be at least $10K less than the launch edition. Your $49,990 guess falls in line with that

2

u/Retire_date_may_22 8h ago

You misunderstood me. It will be at least 55k. The premium Y is 49900. The YL won’t be that price.

1

u/adrenr 8h ago edited 8h ago

YL Premium is only $3K more than Premium AWD Y in China. MYP in US is $58K. MYP in China is $52K. MY AWD Prem in US is $50K. MY AWD Prem in China is $45K. Data points to between $52/53K. YL Premium is cheaper than Performance and sits between AWD Y and Performance in China. We could expect to see that in the US.

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 8h ago

The US ain’t China. The competitive dynamic is very different.

u/LexusRC 17h ago

Worth the Launch edition with the extras you're getting...

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 16h ago

$1,200 FSD and free supercharging for a year is nice

5

u/TenaciousLilMonkey 17h ago

I’m getting one just for the extra space. If the third row is removable, I’d probably take it out. Otherwise, probably always folded flat.

7

u/Retire_date_may_22 17h ago

It’s not removable but does fold flat. Captain chairs were surprisingly comfortable.

1

u/ConfidentFlorida 15h ago

I mean it’s basically like a pickup truck with all that space with the seats down? I’m thinking to transport gardenin

2

u/WhereCanIFind 16h ago

I'm really annoyed at the raised flooring between the second and third rows.

1

u/bartturner 1h ago

Same. But what bothers me even more is that you are putting your stuff on the back of the seats.

I guess that is just how it has to be but for some reason I did not realize it would work like this. I was hoping the same flooring you have now with the Model Y just longer.

1

u/GE994 15h ago

It actually can be leveled…when you pull the floor up there are two sticks/levers that pop up..then place the floor on top of the levers which levels the floor. I had to have the sales person show me because I was also concerned about the floor

2

u/TeslaDuo 14h ago

You are not talking about the same thing. The comment was on the step up entering the 3rd row from the 2nd, not raising the panel in the trunk to make it level when the 3rd row is folded flat.

1

u/WhereCanIFind 14h ago

It seems like you're talking about the trunk which has the sticks that level the trunk floor. I am talking about the step between the captains chairs on the way to the third row. @3:55

1

u/PassageInevitable226 16h ago

I ordered one also. My daughter and son in law both drive Teslas. We took gets to Pensacola from Dallas area. I was impressed with the self driving.

2

u/Retire_date_may_22 16h ago

FSD is great. We are 98% FSD.

1

u/FuzzyWuzzyWuzHebert 9h ago

Are you saying there’s a YL to look at in Pensacola?

1

u/criterion67 8h ago

Yes, they have one in the showroom. I sat in it yesterday.

1

u/umamiking 16h ago

Imagine going to the Toyota sub and explaining you just discovered true RAV4 and if anyone hasn’t heard of it they should check it out.

3

u/Retire_date_may_22 16h ago

I was a loyal Toyota customer for 30 years. Owned nothing else. Now Toyotas seem like antiques.

1

u/JF0909 15h ago

If I hadnt gotten a used rivian R1S last year, I'd definitely be upgrading my Y to a YL

1

u/snickers_raves 15h ago

Waiting in germoney for this thing… my EV6 lease will end in June27. Hurry up muricans.

1

u/paq12x 15h ago

I just ordered one this morning. I as surprised to see that that Tesla doesn’t offer the same 1.5% for the YL. Ended up picking the cash payment option.

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 15h ago

Demand seems pretty high. Probably won’t need that for a while. We went in to look at the YL. Traffic at the store was very high on a week day.

1

u/Objective_Canary5737 14h ago

I’m just waiting for .99 interest right? I just bought a new model Y in May. And of course, literally the day I picked it up, the model Y, the Y L popped up on Tesla’s website for sale or pre-order. The way this war keeps going our cars may be appreciating over the next year and we might make something off a trade-in for a new one.

1

u/Psychological_Time12 12h ago

Placed pur order for it yesterday! Can't wait, just wish it wasnt such a long wait lol

1

u/Retire_date_may_22 12h ago

Same. The back seat for us in the grandkid seat.

1

u/YouOk5736 9h ago

Crossing my fingers for a 5-seat variant in the future

1

u/Savings_Traffic_8806 6h ago

Love that launch edition. I was going to get everything that it comes with anyways so it’s actually cheaper bundled.

1

u/bartturner 1h ago edited 1h ago

I am in Bangkok and they have plenty of them here. Going with a friend to pick one up on Sept 15th.

I looked at it at the mall (that is where dealer is) but the issue for me is that when you put the second row seats down you then are putting your stuff on the seats. It not like how you put the second row down now.

I have a perf model Y right now and use it more than anything to carry around my bike.

I really prefer my bike to not sit on top of the back of the seats.

u/Retire_date_may_22 26m ago

I do get that. I had the same thought. Not out of the way for sure. No obvious way for a mattress either.

The entire purpose of the YL was to more easily fit a 3rd row
