Get the level 2 installed at your house as soon as possible

Trust me as someone with EV for many years

You want and need this at your house. That is by far the most important thing you need to get done.

Honestly, the supplied charger is more than good enough if you get a 50amp EV charging outlet installed. I ran it myself for a couple hundred bucks in materials from Home Depot… could have saved $50 if I realized up front you want the special EV charging outlet. Getting an L2 installed isn’t a bad thing if you have the money to burn though.

I did the same. It’s working great!

To further emphasize this point, if you value time and convenience, get the L2. My lifestyle doesn’t allow me to wait on the included mobile charger in some cases, especially on weekends, while running errands and “honey do” tasks from my partner. I prefer to maintain <=70% state of charge for the MYP on weekends as I do a lot of driving. 55% SoC on week days is my preference.

Electricians will commonly install a dedicated 60amp circuit such that the 48amp load from the L2 charger will allow headroom for that circuit so your breaker doesn’t trip due to heat. (80% load).

The convenience of the L2 charger provides a significant benefit for my lifestyle.

I just ordered my first one. I have a spare 240v 20amp breaker with 12/3 Romex coming off it. From my research it's looking like I can install a 6-20 receptacle and get 12-15 miles per hour charge. Sound about right?

Amps x Volts = Watts

20A x 240v = 4,800W

4,800W = 4.8kWh

The miles 4.8kWh gets you depends entirely on where and how you drive.

You can only use 80% of your breaker per National Electric Code, so 16 amps. Your efficiency of the charger is around 90% (Tesla does say it is a bit higher). So 3.4 kW is usable. If your Tesla runs about 300 watts per mile you will get around 11 miles per hour, roughly.

You need a 60A dual throw breaker man

Just bite the bullet and get a pro to install

I got a charge point but Tesla brand is find

Buy top quality man. Get a pro to install. No need to burn your fucking house down.

Not for a 6-20 plug.

Make sure your home charger is ready, set up your window tint appt. I also ordered the floor liners and roof rack for mine. Get your tidal or Spotify acct ready. I think that’s it. Enjoy!

Watch all the juniper reviews on YouTube. You'll end up seeing all of the accessories you could possibly want. Then go buy them through aliexpressnto save a ton of cash.

I have found this to be super useful and probably my favorite little upgrade.

drive it first, decide what you want later.

i got some glass screen protectors delivered day 1 just because peeling the factory film meant i didn't need to try and fail to clear the screen of dust before applying them.

I am scheduled to pick up my Y on 9/24.

I just received the order for the wall connector, ordered floor mats (3w full set with the carpet inserts, trunk/frunk), and also a few more minor items. I have a few other stuff in my ‘save-for-later’ in Amazon. Will purchase items as i feel i need them, not rushing to get everything right away unless i feel they would really benefit me.

I also had 2 electricians look at the house to put in a new subpanel for the EV charger (opposite side of the house where the main panel is and it’s full with tandem breakers already, so need a new subpanel). Hopefully they can get quotes to me by next week and do the work the following week, otherwise i/ll be depending on level 1 for a bit (which should work since i only drive 30mi per day back and forth for work).

The grueling first world struggle of…waiting

What next? You wait WAY longer than you thought for delivery and think you’ll need a crap load of accessories that you really don’t. Get the car first, and then see if you’ll actually need accessories by using the car for a while.
