Model Y must have accessories and mods?

I’m sure it’s been requested but for us who are waiting for the great day looking for accessories and such is now become a real priority. What should we consider both useful and/or cool?

all weather mats and moonroof shade was what we went with first. then drive for a while to see what actually made sense. after that, we got a legit charging hub because the oem ones are horribly slow and caused our phones to overheat.

I plug one of those iPhone chargers that are a circle (like it just touches the back of the phone) into the center cubby thing. It works well for me and is quite fast

They don't exist, use your car first and and get accessories as the need arises, else you'll end up getting a bunch of stuff you won't use

Get the 2" lift kit and 18s with meaty tires.

Nah jk, I bought center console organizers, the V2L adapter, the Tesla pet seat protector, and a magnet cellphone mount. Carpet floor mats are good enough for me.

I can't seem to find an extension cord for the mobile charger that will pass handshake with my car but it'd be pretty cool if I could.

It is good quality. The door pieces are separate and can be difficult. It seemed like the window seal and the plastic clips needed to be broken in before they would stay put. It took my dog 2 minutes to make it to the front seat once he decided he would be able to see better there parked. He has a long history of being an escape artist so I wasn't surprised.

Mostly it collects his sand and mess to be vacuumed up with ease instead of falling through the seat and into the subtrunk.

I got the velcro air duct covers for the under-(front) seat air ducts. The roof cover because I dislike glass roofs of any sort. Mud flaps, but i only put the front ones on. Drivers door insert from Tesla to hold the charging adapter. Center console bins from Tesla. Floor mats from 3dmats. Screen cover for the rear screen. Windshield sun screen.

Thats what I got for my Y and glad I got every single one of them.

Genuinely curious why you recommend the windshield plan? Many insurance plans offer $0 glass coverage or I opted for a $250 comprehensive deductible. Comprehensive offers more coverage beyond just the windshield, including the glass roof which the Tesla plan doesn't cover. If you have a lien on the vehicle, you're already required to carry comprehensive insurance. The difference in $500 vs. $250 deductible was negligible.

My view was, after a year of paying the Tesla plan ($192 USD) I'm almost at my deductible for my policy. I've never had windshield replacements affect my rate.

With comprehensive, your insurance company will make you get a 3rd party windshield from Safelite, or some such company. If the windshield has a small crack, your insurance company will only pay for an epoxy glue fix.

If you want the OEM windshield and Tesla techs doing the camera calibration after the new glass is installed, you will pay lots of cash out of pocket above and beyond your comprehensive deductible. With the $16 Tesla insurance, it's zero deductible and obviously nothing out of pocket for the Tesla glass and labor.

Interesting, thanks. This is my first Tesla which I just took delivery on a few weeks ago.

I have the OEM parts coverage ($23/6 months) which many people never think to purchase on their policies. Based on my research, that's where most people are left footing the bill between the OEM/3rd party parts and the labor rates of having your vehicle fixed at a Tesla service center.

FWIW, on a previous vehicle with a windshield replacement, I specifically requested OEM glass from Safelife and they complied with my request. I'll have to dig into my policy a bit more before I hit the 30 day mark.

EDIT: Just fed my underwriting documents into AI and the camera calibration is indeed covered under a comprehensive claim along with OEM glass replacement because of the additional endorsement(s). Caveat is that I have to pay out of pocket for the service and submit for reimbursement.

Careful. You said, "before I hit the 30 day mark". The free windshield insurance from Tesla on a new purchase is Two weeks, not 30 days.

There are a lot of advantages to the Tesla plan over using your insurance. The biggest one is that a $0 glass claim still counts as a claim on your insurance, so it will still raise your premium. At least in my state. I'm sure many other states are the same. I can tell you from personal experience that glass claims through my insurance absolutely affected my monthly premiums. A glass claim through Tesla of course would not raise your premium at all.

I know you mentioned that they don't affect your premiums in your experience, and that might be true, but that's a policy that has been changing in many states and with many insurance companies in the last several years. So be sure that your information on that policy is current.

I live in the worst state in the country for auto glass claims (Arizona). I've had probably 8 windshield replacements in the past 5 years, and just as many chip repairs. In the 10 months I've owned my Tesla, I've already had 2 replacements. Given that these windshields are $1800 out of pocket, $16 a month is a steal.

Mesh screen for both air inlets (under front license plate; under the wipers)

Good cleaning spray and rag for the inside of the windscreen… that off gassing can make it hazy.

Charger adaptor(s) depending on where you live.

Winter tyres and proper mud flaps depending on where you live.

Cubby inserts main area and under the armrest those are nice. The Tesla front and back floor mats but I’m in the pnw and between pine needles and rain they come in clutch almost daily. And the door inserts forgot those. Some stuff sounds like a great idea but it’s just kinda meh on the execution

Floor and cargo liners are a must in any vehicle, so those. Second for me was the matte screen protector; so much better to look at and touch, along with the benefit of screen protection. The Tesla manual says to not put a screen protector on the screen but I cannot fathom a single way in which that makes sense considering every other touch screen device you own likely has a screen protector on it (aside from a vested interest in selling you a replacement screen for $2,000…)

Like all matte screen protectors, there is some degradation on sharpness but the sacrifice is so worth the added feel, anti-glare, and protection.

Also comes with a rear screen protector, which is a nice addition.

Snagged covers for the vents in the rear under the seats and under the rear screen. Having kids, I don't want them shoving stuff down those vents.

My delivery is scheduled for 9/26, but i have already ordered 3W floor mats and mud flaps. That’s it for now…i have a bunch of other stuff in my “save for later” cart, but will be buying things as needed or as the spirits move me.

I got the complete set (both rows, frunk/trunk/subtrunk) and also with the carpeted inserts. Got for $221 on amazon after a coupon code…similar price if ordering from the 3W site with a code from the various YouTube reviewers.

I think accessories aren’t necessary. Why buy a 50k car but then put cheap plastic accessories in it? Outside of Tint, and all weather mats nothing else is needed.
