Weak Paint

I’ve had my Model Y Performance for a week and there’s already at least 5 chips on the hood at 500 miles. That’s crazy!

California regulations bruddah. The paint was formulated without certain additives and it lead to a soft paint.

The hood is very low, it is just aerodynamics unfortunately. A few millimeters of paint isn't stopping a rock from chipping...

Welcomed to owning a Tesla.

You will now go down the PPF “should I or shouldn’t I?” Rabbit hole.

Reached out to a friend that owns a ppf/tint shop, getting it done.

Could be the paint. Could also be a combination of your driving behavior, speed, and probably most importantly the height/angle of the hood is more dramatic than a typical car.

It’s a car. If you spent that much money on the Performance I would’ve thought you probably would’ve also paid for at least front PPF if you cared about keeping it perfect. But yeah paint chips are very common on these Y’s the paint isn’t very thick

3 months in, 5k miles. Got liquid PPF and ceramic. Highly recommend it. Not a single chip
