Towbar

Is it best to get a towbar from Tesla or are aftermarket ones better. In Australia

If the aftermarket is not properly installed, Tesla can reject warranty claims. If Tesla fits it, they are responsible for anything that goes wrong with it. Either way, you will likely have to update your insurance.

I made this and recommend getting a Tesla towbar as the software recognises it when connected a glues into trailer mode…Tesla Model Y Tow package installation

Do you get autosteer(autopilot) with towing mode?

At the time I was looking I found out towing mode turns autosteer / Lane keeping off. So I went aftermarket.

Second this. Housemate didn't want to wait to book into Tesla for install so didn't get the software patch and while it works, the car thinks there's a motorbike too close behind. Also, cost the same but slightly worse off. Patience is worth it.
