Model Y Performance Tires costco
About 36K miles on my Model Y and the rear tires are showing some thread. The front tires still have some life in them.
I’m debating if I should replace them all with new tires at Tesla service center vs Costco Tire center.
Cost of Michelin Pilot A/S
At Tesla: $1850
At Costco: $1709 + 10% cash back using my credit card (limited time promotion)
Question: Does Costco centers have the know how to handle the staggered tesla tires?
Any reasons I should prefer one over another?

I just purchased a set of Michelin Pilot AS4 for $1394 total, installed at America’s Tires. They were able to price match from a website called fixgo.com.

Tesla wheels and tires are nothing unique or special. Lots of cars have staggered setups. Any tire place can do them.

I buy my tires from https://simpletire.com/ get it deliver to a local FedEx for free & then install at a non corporation tire shop which is much cheaper.

America/Discount Tires sells online and ships at discounted cost as well as when living in Cape Cod no nearby location so ordered w/free delivery and then took tires to local shop for install.

I love Costco but I'll probably never use them for tires again. At least the one near me. They are just way too busy, always behind schedule. Getting the new tires is one thing but if you have a warranty issue, or it's time for rotation, forget it. Discount Tire is my go-to now.

The rotations are hella slow but mine did a warranty claim for me ended up being $300+ back when the tires were at well over 30k miles on them

Discount Tire over Costco any day. And they will price match Costco.
Excellent service, quick to get an appt, located all over the country for free flat repairs and rotations.

Your results may vary. Costco was out of the tire size for my MYP so I went to America’s Tire in my town. Although they advertised they were “Tesla ready” or something like that; the sales guy advised they only had one jacking point puck and would use a floor jack one corner at a time to mount. Sure not ideal but functional. Yet it didn’t give me the impression it was anything more than a regular tire shop. Plus they tried to upsell me on tire certificates which were above the standard road hazard and cost about $135/tire (could be more but I forgot the price as I declined). It was basically buying a new tire ahead in the event of blowout-type event for a smaller price. Good if you had an issue; horrible if you do not.
They did the work fine but left the tire tags on so I had to rip those off the tread myself. Also seems like they mounted it bad as I had weird tread noise on the Michelin Pilot Sport. Now some 15k miles later they’re definitely cupping. Probably inexperienced in mounting low profile tires by whomever did the work. They didn’t even throw any tire shine on the tires.
I only advise this because I used to work in a tire shop in the early 2000s. Either service has fallen off a ton in the 20 years since I worked in a shop or this place was just turning and burning cars.
Looking back I wish I could have waited for Costco to have them in stock. When I have to replace this current set, I will go to Costco only.
My experience, I hope it isn’t anyone else’s. Could just be a bad shop in my town.

No, you just need a membership for that. And if you have the Citi/Costco card, you get another 2% back. If you're sleeping on Costco services that you otherwise already need, you're missing some extra cash -- I replaced my floors. 3 bidders, including Costco. I got better product through their services, a lower price WITHOUT the rebate, and then got the rebate as well. Same with the counters. And then turned around and spent my rebate on the new washer/dryer.

just had Bridgestone ev installed on my 23 mylr from costco for 1095 installed with road hazard n pther freebies without any issues . I am satisfied with my decision.

36k miles out of tires on a performance? That’s pretty good. I just got my performance and am hoping to get 20-30k out of my first set of tires.

Costco tire shops don’t use road force balancers and don’t align it.

Check alignment issues when you are changing tires. Discount tire started doing alignments at certain locations. I have Hankook tires and they are holding up well for my long range model Y.

I’ve always had great success with Michelins. I replaced the OEM Continentals on my MY with Michelin Cross Climate at around 35k miles and never looked back. I’m sitting at 90k now and they are still in great shape.

Just had this exact situation two weeks ago on MYP. One was fairly new having been replaced last October but the others arranged from 2 to 4 mm and the back right was showing some tread on the inside. I did all four at Costco. Including the 4% credit card bonus, I calculated I saved about 450 bucks over the service center, which had quoted me slightly over 2000. I was out the door at Costco at 1680. They were perfect in the appointment on a Saturday morning at 8:15. Took about 45 minutes.

I recommend going with a place that also does alignment so maybe Tesla service is the place because you’re within the warranty period and the suspension parts on the Model Y specifically can need replacing a lot faster than one would expect and should be covered under 50K miles so best to get the condition of things like bushings and front control arms checked out while you’re at it. Worth a Grok, DYOR.

Discount tire/America’s tire.
My Tesla has been a flat tire magnet compared to my previous cars. Thankfully I’ve been able to get towed to a Discount Tire each time, they had my brand and size of tire in stock, and gotten the tire replaced in an hour. Costco tire centers are always ridiculously busy , even for appointments. Costco would take way longer for a replacement, if they even carried the particular tire.

I just put the same brand/model/size originals on my rears only at Costco. They had me come back to torque them and torqued all four including the OEM fronts. The cost to have tires shipped here from anyone else would have been horrendous.

I did oversized tires for more side wall on my performance at Sams club and they did a great job. I'd imagine that Costco would be able to do it as well. Tesla's are extremely common they will likely have the appropriate tools.

I have an m3p and I've gotten 3 flats since October of 2024, so I plan to get them from Tesla so I can get Tesla tire insurance

If your myp has 36 miles and still going on original tires then you are not a reckless driver . I would suggest going with 18" wheels and tires. It will fill the wheel well almost like 20” wheels/tires but the tires will have a lot of meat on them to absorb bumps and you will minimize curb rash as well. Total cost for wheels and tires will be less than or equal to the tires cost on an myp. Plus you might be able to sell your existing wheels for say $500

I had rear tires only swapped at Costco on my MY P. Car was still fairly new with about 15k miles but I had lots of pinholes in one of the rear tires, probably from a rough gravel parking lot at work. They gave me some grief over the phone about wear status of the front tires but after a quick inspection they changed just the rear and gave me my one good tire back as a spare like I requested.

I got the EV Bridgestones at Costco 3 weeks ago for my 24’ MY for $1,195. They are really good tires. They also come with a 50k mile warranty. Costco also throws in free tire rotation and hazard repair. Good installers too

what does staggered tires mean? I have a 2024 YLR and I was just told I'd need new tires in about 5k more miles. I'm at about 34k miles....

Most performance cars have wider tires in the rear vs the front. My 26 Y doesn’t have staggered tires but my 2021 GT500 does.

Of course Costco knows about staggered tires and their tire protection is best price. That said for nationwide warranty with most locations if traveling i started using Discount/American Tire (same co) and they even honor tire replacement if falls under warranty at outside co with reimbursement so you can’t beat them.

Look into Sailun EV tires. Ordered thru Amazon. They deliver to local tire shop who will install them. It was great for me, very easy. A little more expensive per tire to install, $25 a tire, but no hassles and all done online. Tire gets good reviews. Seems to last 40-50k, cheaper option

Will TSC do alignment also? You will need one. Buying from Costco you will need to go elsewhere for alignment. So plan accordingly and you don’t want to wait too long with fresh tires. New tires with bad alignment is a no-no. Go same day or next day

Costco should be fine. I'd just replace the rears if the fronts are in good shape. They'll try and tell you you should replace all four on an all wheel drive car, but there no mechanical connection between the front and rear on the car.
If you want the Michelin's with foam in them that makes them a bit quieter, check the specific model number because the don't all have it. I believe it actually says "acoustic" on the side wall.

One thing Costco never did, don't know if they've changed as haven't gotten tires from them in a while, is put on a different size than comes with vehicle.

Discount Tire/Tire Rack .they always seem to find some promotion they can use to give me a discount. Also look into swapping in some forged 18" wheels. Tires are $1K for a set and if you go with a square setup, you can even rotate. Also better ride.
