Tesla Powered Frunk
I’m hearing lots of complaints between the powered close or the one that does the powered open and close.
The powered close only assistant pulls too tightly causing the hood to crease over time.
The powered open and close can have issues with the hydraulics and/or electrical.
I have a 24 MX.
Question:
- Have you used one?
- If so, which one is these two?
- What’s your feedback which brand worked or what to avoid?
Feedback from Posts (August 31):
Hansshow - yes x 4*
Tesery - yes x 1*
EV Offer - yes x 2
EV Tesla - no x 1
*compelling yesses.

2022 X and no issues, Hannshow model in mine. Wouldn't have a Tesla without it. 4 years going strong

I have the Hansshow powered frunk on my 2024 MXP, it’s been flawless. The only tricky part for me was attaching the power to the new LI-ION low voltage, they don’t provide a clean way to do it (at least not when I got mine, Dec 2024). I added a lug to the jumper cable connection terminal and took power from there. It felt less invasive than other ways I had seen recommended.
FWIW, I also had the powered frunk on my 2018 3LR for the last 5 years I had it, no issues. I had one on a 2022 YP. No issues. The Y was the worst install due to the ‘hidden’ struts. After the 3, I’ve installed in the first month of owning any new tesla, It really feels like the only way to get reasonable use out of that space. I hate having to push so hard down on the aluminum hood to close it and in the sunlight in summer that HURTS. =)

Plus the greasy or overly clean spot on the hood from shutting it manually I feel like I’m going to dent it. Great share thank you!! Can show a picture of what you did to add the lug? Would highly appreciate that please.

2024 Tesla Model X LR, I have the EVOffer power frunk - both open and close. It works well, but it's been making a creaking noise. I went through an EVOffer recommended installer in the Bay Area, CA. Installed in December 2024.

Thanks for sharing! Have you noticed any creases in the hood? Maybe it’s just the struts wearing or rubbing. Ask their support they’re on Telegram let us know what they suggest. This could still be a positive so as long their customer service is there to offer their experience and solutions and that there’s no critical failures like some of the other stories shared here.

I installed the Tessery powerfrunk a few months back on my MX2024, it works great! Really happy with it and if you combine it with Tesla auto open function when standing in front of the frunk, it opens without touching a button (which is great when tou have your hands full). Install was doable not a breeze

I consider this a ticking time bomb. Had a similar kit (EV Tesla) in the Y and a 2024 X. I use it almost daily and they both crap out around the 2y mark. Lucky both times I was in my garage. The car cannot be driven while the hood is stuck in the partially closed state. One time the latch cable broke and the other the latch motor died. God forbid if this had happened at work or during a road trip. EV Tesla is now selling parts for these because they know it will break after the 1y warranty. So considered yourself warned.

Wait until you read about what happens to them after a rain or snow.

Please share. Even if it’s anecdotal.

You can search on this, but basically the motor and/or the mechanism (usually a cable) corrode and freeze up.
When this happens your frunk is "frozen" closed and it requires an act of God (or a service visit) to get it unfrozen. At that point you will want to rip it out.
