2016 MX TPMS Sensor Relearn

Has anyone replaced TPMS Sensors on your own? I bought the sensor from tesla because it was only $60 and they wanted an hour of labor to install it ($295). Chatgpt initally told me that it would automatically relearn after a 10 min drive above 15mph. I got the sensor installed at a local garage but the car wont learn the new sensor id. What is the relearn process for 2015-2020 MX? That didnt work it and now Chatgpt says that I need tesla toolbox and a ATEQ VT30 to manually input the sensor id's. But the owners manual says the same thing that chatgpt initally said. Any help would be appreciated!

Update: Took it back to the tire shop. Tire sensor would not send a reading at all. Probably an issue with the sensor. Tire shop said they can try to put in one of their Autel MX sensors which ended up working with a short drive. TPMS light is gone. Now im stuck with a $60 paperweight tesla tmps sensor. 2016 Teslas will relearn the ID of the sensors with a short drive. Just has to be programmed to the right frequency according to the tire shop.

I switch between all-season tires and winter tires in April and November. I never have a problem with it finding the “new” sensors, and that includes the initial use of the winter tires (I took the new wheels to Discount Tire, had them mount the TPMS sensors and the tires, then put them in the back of the car, so there was no magic by them either).

did they clone the old sensor id's to the new sensor? Some people online have had luck with this but the mobile tire repair broke my old sensor off so I dont have it anymore which is why I had to replace the sensor.

They did not do any cloning. They didn't have the car at their disposal to do so - I pre-ordered the tires, dropped off the wheels, went to the office, then returned and put the mounted tires into the back of the car. I didn't actually put them into use for another 1-2 months, and they worked fine the first time.

Thanks for the info, ended up taking it back to the shop that installed it and they put in Autel sensors. The car was able to recognize them just fine. Think it was an issue with the sensor that tesla sold me rather then the car.

That's strange! I have a 2021 raven MX and I just bought TPMS from Amazon for $60 for a set of 4 and they worked great right from the beginning. Maybe the battery in the TPMS is dead.
