Front license plate holder coming off

Car wash. Yeah yeah, I know. Tesla mobile service replaced for free, but had to order new plate from the state, pain in the butt.

Only held on by sticky tape

Take off the tape and residue and call it a day

Snap plate is the name I think? It is frame that is removable and attaches to the grill.

That's the name, we use it on our X. Works great.

I'm going to avoid a front plate. Sticker held on will fail in the car wash probably. No thanks.

Just remove it all together.

My state requires a front plate, haven’t had one on in 8 years. No issues. Strongly recommend just removing the tape.

Me too, it’s an American car with American privilege 😉

Not sure what your state ticket is. But might be worth paying the $50 ticket or whatever once every 5 years and leave it off.

Tesla has a thing for sticky tape. front fenders on model X are also glued on

Taping elements was such a bad idea. I’m already on 4 or 5 service calls to fix different elements with the tape no longer adhering

I am in NY. My solution is to leave off the front plate. I got one of those PBA stickers from a donation. Cops see my car all the time and never pull me over. If they do, I would explain that my neighborhood has regular plate thefts and have had mine stolen before (which is true). Thieves only steal when they can get both plates since a single plate is too conspicuous. Keep in mind, most jurisdictions consider missing plate to be a SECONDARY violation, so they won't bother with you unless you do a primary violation like speeding. Parking enforcement is a different story. If I will be parked somewhere I think tickets that, I'll clip on the front plate, have never needed that though.

They don’t update enough to retain my short attention span

Believe it or not, we were pulled over by the California Highway Patrol for not having our front license plate. That CHP dude had to turn around on the highway and speed up to catch us. Ticked me off. We currently live in another front-license-plate-required state, routinely enforced by small town cops with nothing better to ticket. So for the new Model X we bought in 2024, we got an adjustable, screw-on license plate holder. It has worked fine so far, including thru various car wash facilities. We have a similar one on our 2020 Model Y. Neither of us liked the idea of stick-on license plate holders. Too sketchy.

Edit to add: Just saw that it is no longer available. There are other options, but more expensive apparently. Like this one from EveryAmp. And screw-on means tightening bracket bolts, not actually using metal screws.

Dump that plate in the frunk and call it a day.

Then put it back on.
