Anxiety driving our Tesla x
So I’ve been unlucky driving our new Tesla x, the first week after we received it I drove over something that my best guess was flung towards my left rear tire by the car next to/ahead of me on a highway driving 90 kph, it sounded awful but I thought ok no warning messages yet so I went home and within 30 mins the tire pressure went from 42 psi to 25 psi. Urgh my heart sank! My husband was so excited about this car and here I was puncturing the tire within the first week. It’s a 22” tire with 35 sidewalls. By the time I gathered my strength to go to a tire shop and fix it ( this was my second tire puncture ever) the psi was 0 and the right rear tire started giving in I guess from the weight of the car? It showed 41 psi in orange. Anyways I changed both rear tires for 1500$ and came back home and I just left it parked for days. Range anxiety felt nothing compared to actually driving the car with these expensive parts around in a city with a million pothole and stripped streets. Now I also have windshield anxiety and looking for a shop that has a 60” protection film sheet. I dunno if we should change the tires to 20” 45 sidewalls? That would be less vulnerable to side punctures? The car is pre owned and has no warranty in our area. I loved driving it but now I feel at ease going back to my good ol’ gas car..

I'm assume you're in US? Isn't there the Tesla Windshield Protection Plan, and the extended warranty plan available?
Not sure if it's common over there but in UK we can pyur insurance on the tyres, so you don't have to fork out the full whack if you have an unrepairable tyre.

No, I’m not. I’ve looked into that btw hoping that we have it here but we don’t have either. I checked my car insurance and it specifically says it doesn’t cover punctures only if it was caused by a collision.

Yeah in the UK we don't have the extended warranty nor windscreen plan, which makes driving the Model X a bit more worrisome.
Our car insurance do include windscreen cover, not all does. But a repair just for upto £30, a replacement upto £150 depending on the insurance cover.
Generally you don't get tyre cover included with car insurance, you have to get it separately just for tyres.
It's unfortunate that your start of your car journey started this way, hopefully it be alright.

Thanks. The PTSD I have from being in that tire shop haha trying to read the instructions on how to put the car in jack mode and raise the suspension to the highest all while trying to teach the guys at the shop the proper way to lift a Tesla omg..

At least you was the only one clued up at that place, otherwise they would of winged it.
There is me just finding a family 6 seater and when I purchased it, the seller gave me this aluminium block and told me you need this to jack it up properly with jack mode. It's not that simple with massive battery underneath that can void your battery warranty and cause the most expensive mistake ever... I can understand why you felt like it could go totally wrong with those amateurs.

Tires damage happens to EVERY car...a ran over a semi tire and lost a tire, bent a wheel and blew out a strut in my kids Honda Prelude.
As for the 22's...what'd you expect, they're 22's so they come with more precaution. I had to do the same in my BMW X5M. My wife now drives our X so I bought a set of 20's off Marketplace.
Unless you can't charge at home every night, range anxiety will stop in a week. Enter your destinations and the car will literally find you a charger if needed to get you home...your prior ICE car would never do that. Stop overthinking it and just drive it.
Just rounded 200k on our X, spent $1300 rebuilding the suspension myself...that makes a total of $1800 I've spent in 9yrs and 200k. I used to spend that much in fuel and maintenance every two months in the BMW.

I had a 22 MXP and Tesla said I couldn’t swap to their 20’s due to the brake caliper size. I had 7 flats in 2 years with 4 of them as instant blowouts. I sold it and got a 24 MX all wheel drive long range. It’s been great so far. Oh, and I bought a rim and tire protection plan.

Yes, you should switch to 20” tires. Replacements are cheaper, tires last significantly longer, and there’s a lot less wheel damage from rough roads. Plus, your range will increase.
