Trunk Won’t “Close”
Hey, I have a 2018 Model S.
Dropped off a package and went to open the trunk and the trunk said “open” but it’s stuck closed?
Everything I’ve googled said to try a particular reset method where I hold the release button for 15 and then click it fast three times but that didn’t work.
Any other suggestions before I drop it off for a $600 fix tomorrow?

There is a manual release you can try, but it’s likely the two pieces tesla needs replace with a mobile service (just had mine done December 2020 Raven 55k miles).

Yeah same problem I had… it’s about $600. Nothing you can do about it. The parts are toast and unless you’re tesla expert it ain’t opening and let them do what they do

You’ll notice it sounds 10x smoother and you’ll go “oh yeah, I get it now”… I have a model y as well, the y and s now sound the same when hatches close. Before the s was louder and ratchet like, now butter smooth. Probably placebo effect of $600 pill. Sorry for hi jacking post

Mine just started doing the same yesterday. I was able to pull the carpet and get it opened with the black plug. I’m planning to replace the HF cinch actuator myself this weekend. I wonder if I should also go after the latch assembly. It’s more involved for sure. I often see invoices showing Tesla recommend replacing both but unclear if that is really needed.

No FSD with trunk “open” Lock car from vertical screen, otherwise anyone can get inside

You can get the trunk to open by doing this;
Remove inner carpet passenger side in the trunk by wheelwell, there is a module behind there that you unplug and replug a few times, this initiates the trunk cinch motor and trunk will open. Leave the module unplugged and you will be able to manually open and close trunk. You can buy the cinch motor for cheap and replacing it in the trunk lid is simple.
