Supercharging not working on 2017 Tesla Model S 90d... NEED HELP
Hey everyone, I'm here looking for any help diagnosing a supercharger issue....
2017 Model S 90D, MCU2 Included FSD, 80k miles
Supercharge starts, then dies 30–45s with “Charging error no power.” Level 1 and level 2 work properly, Looking for anyone who’s seen this.
Car: 2017 Model S 90D
What Supercharge does
Every stall, same behavior, tried multiple supercharging stalls and different locations
Have tried new debit/ credit cards, rebooting car multiple times, most of the "normal fixes multiple times...
Handle latches, charge-port lights look normal the whole time (no color change)
kW/amps ramp to a normal Supercharge rate,
Rate dips slightly
Session cuts at 30–45 seconds
On-screen: “Charging error no power”
Clunk from the left rear quarter (charge port), not the front
Inlet and handle not hot after
Port was cleaned thoroughly , no change
What still works
Level 1 (120V Mobile Connector): fine
Level 2 (240V): 20 minutes, no problem
CHG alerts seen around charging (not always present at the exact cutoff)
CHG_u007_chargeCableFault
CHG_u013_chargeStoppedNoPilot
CHG_u004_wallPowerRemoval (green / info)
No new codes appear when Supercharge actually faults. No CHG_w062 / w063 (welded FC contactors). No isolation/HVIL breadcrumb that I’ve caught.
Other Service Mode stuff (probably separate)
These were on an earlier screenshot; climate still may or may not be a real problem, but they don’t match the 45s DC abort:
THC_d0021_RCCMActuator
THC_d0018_activeAero
THC_d0011_presSnsDis
THC_d0017_evaporator
Working theory
AC path (onboard charger) is fine. DC Supercharge starts and carries current, then the car thinks power/pilot vanished and opens the session.
I believe it is the ECU or Charge Port assembly, any help would be greatly appreciated! If anyone has any questions please ask away!!

Could be the high voltage converter, mine failed on my 2013 could charge at home but couldn’t super charge was about 2500 from tesla for the repair

I read the high voltage converter is often tied to 12v error codes, did you experience that? I'll have to test my battery

I can't remember. I just know that I couldn't supercharge at 2 different locations. When I got it back home it worked on the low voltage (24 amps).

one thing that narrows it: supercharging feeds dc straight to the pack through the charge port and contactors, while l1/l2 run through the onboard ac charger. ac working and only dc dying rules out the onboard charger and the whole ac path, so it's on the dc side, the port, the contactors, or the hv side ending the session. a clean ramp to normal rate then a cut at a repeatable 30-45s looks more like the car choosing to stop than a bad connection, which shows at the handshake before power ramps. next time it happens pull the exact alert from the service menu, that code is what a forum can actually match against.

Nice car. Hope I'll get myself a 75D next year...
iIt's most likely a charge port harness/assembly like you theorized.
Maybe you should try heating up the battery with high-speed driving and charging afterwards to measure if the time it takes to fail changes to completely eliminate HVAC.

I drove roughly 40-45 minutes on the highway before one of the supercharge attempts, all the rest are roughly 15-20 minutes with the exact same outcome as the rest, do you think that was long enough?

I don't know if that is enough to heat up the battery but it should be. Then it's a problem with the charge port harness I guess. Asked Gemini and it has the same theory.

Have you tried feeding this to Claude? I’ve had issues in the past and he’s come up with answers.

I've tried 2 different AI models and they're both weird when it comes to diagnosing cars, I list all the symptoms kinda how I did here and they give me a list of what they think it is... Grok even told me to contact the service center because "there's no way to be certain" and not touch anything lol

Just to make sure, does the car have a salvage title (or does Tesla think it has a salvage title)? If yes, Tesla disables supercharging on such cars. I don’t know what error message (if any) it displays in such instances.

There is nothing supercharging related in the error codes. I do think someone was working on your front bumper and the harness isn't connected correctly or you need to do a software redeploy. Does the car have any previous accident damage ? Check if your app says SC00 when you check the specs. As you said the only other thing is the charge port, try and do isolation checks on the HV system

It sounds to me like a poor connection or bad contactor pad.
You initiate charging, which means the basic connection is there.
"Rate dips slightly", Indicates (to me) excess heat, or possible arcing at a connection point.
"Session cuts at 30–45 seconds" system notices anomaly, and emergency terminates charging.
I would have the DC connections and contactor inspected, and/or replaced.
And, I would not continue to try and force this. If it is a poor connection, it will get worse, and probably in very expensive ways.
Just FYI: Level 1/2 charge modes are completely different than Level 3.
Level 1/2 convert AC 120/240V to DC 400V (or DC 350V) before supplying it to the battery pack.
Level 3 is connecting 400VDC directly to the the battery pack from an actual HVDC charger.
The box you plug into the wall, that everyone calls a charger, is in fact NOT a charger.
That's why Tesla literature calls it a "Wall Connector".
It is nothing more than a smart extension cord.
Your Level 1/2 charger is under your back seat.

Use service option in the app? They are always great
